Can social integration in schools be mandated: Evidence from the Right to Education Act in India

Although Affirmative Action policies have been enforced in many countries, their consequences are highly understudied, especially in the context of developing economies. Section 12(1)(c) of the Right to Education (RTE) Act enforced in 2009 is the first attempt to introduce affirmative action in primary schools in India. The act requires all private schools to reserve at least twenty five percent seats for children from economically weaker sections. To understand the effect of the act on i) social integration and ii) academic outcomes, we asked 1500 children (grades one to three) from four schools to answer friendship surveys and short tests in Mathematics and English. The schools in our sample vary considerably in constitution and were intentionally chosen to understand the impact of the act in different school settings. The friendship surveys show strong homophily i.e. non-RTE students cite other non-RTE students as friends, while RTE students chose to be friends primarily with other RTE students. Trends in test scores reveal that students admitted under the RTE quota score significantly lower than non-RTE students. However, RTE students who have a higher share of non-RTE friends have better test scores, suggesting that affirmative action may have a positive influence on learning outcomes for RTE children. Further we note that commitment from the school authorities and systematic monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the act will go a long way in bringing out some of the benefits that this act was designed to achieve. Our findings have important policy implications with respect to ensuring proper implementation of the Section12(1)(c) of the RTE act in schools across the country.  相似文献   

Area-socioeconomic disparities in mental health service use among children involved in the child welfare system

Relying on data from a nationally representative sample of youth involved in the child welfare system (CWS) in 1999–2000 (the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being, Cohort 1) and 2008–2009 (Cohort 2), this study implemented a diverse set of disparity indicators to estimate area-socioeconomic disparities in mental health (MH) services use and changes in area-socioeconomic disparities between the two cohorts. Our study found that there are area-socioeconomic disparities in MH service use, indicating that the rates of MH service use among youth referred to the CWS differ by area-socioeconomic positions defined by county-level poverty rates. We also found that area-socioeconomic disparities increased over time. However, the magnitude of the increase varied widely across disparity measures, suggesting that there are different conclusions about the trend and magnitude of area-socioeconomic disparities, depending upon which disparity measures are implemented. A greater understanding of the methodological differences among disparity measures is warranted, which will in turn impact how interventions are designed to reduce socioeconomic disparities among children in the CWS.  相似文献

新型冠状病毒肺炎疫情期间在线健身服务用户持续使用意愿的影响因素研究

新冠肺炎疫情期间,在线健身服务作为“智慧抗疫”的重要组成部分受到了业界和学界的广泛关注。为了进一步探究在线健身服务持续使用意愿的影响因素,该文对技术接受模型(TAM)和任务—技术匹配模型(TTF)进行了整合,通过网络调查和数理统计等研究方法对用户持续使用在线健身服务的影响因素进行了实证分析。结果表明:(1)影响用户持续使用意愿的内外部因素主要包括感知有用性、感知易用性、感知趣味性、任务特征、技术特征和任务—技术匹配度6项;(2)感知有用性、感知易用性、感知趣味性以及任务—技术匹配度对用户持续使用意愿均有显著正向影响;(3)任务特征和技术特征显著正向影响任务—技术匹配度,感知易用性则显著正向影响感知有用性,而感知易用性则不显著正向影响感知趣味性。基于以上分析提出了增加用户持续使用意愿的相关建议。  相似文献   

基于知识图谱的我国公共体育服务研究可视化分析

以中国知网所收录的2007年至2017间核心期刊中有关公共体育服务文献题录作为分析数据样本,对所搜集到的254篇文献进行可视化分析。借助CiteSpace V软件,运用文献计量学方法与内容分析方法,结果表明:近十年我国公共体育服务研究经历了波浪式增长与急速增长两个阶段,研究主题紧密结合国家政策战略,在不断调整中推动了公共体育服务的发展。主要特征体现在始终服务于国家宏观政策方针,顺应了政府职能转变下对体育发展改革的时代需求;以“体育管理、公共服务”为核心的研究主题始终贯穿,主动融入政策响应的研究诉求强烈,人民美好生活中体育需求的关照不足;整个研究过程充满了动态性与局限性。未来研究应坚持与国家公共服务政策相伴相生,形成开放性反馈研究系统;注重公共体育服务研究的政策引领和政策的事后绩效评估;打造学术共同体,提升公共体育服务研究成果在政策咨询和智库建设中的作用。  相似文献   

MARC to BIBFRAME: Converting the PCC to Linked Data

Abstract

The Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) has formal relationships with the Library of Congress (LC), Share-VDE, and Linked Data for Production Phase 2 (LD4P2) for work on Bibliographic Framework (BIBFRAME), and PCC institutions have been very active in the exploration of MARC to BIBFRAME conversion processes. This article will review the involvement of PCC in the development of BIBFRAME and examine the work of LC, Share-VDE, and LD4P2 on MARC to BIBFRAME conversion. It will conclude with a discussion of areas for further exploration by the PCC leading up to the creation of PCC conversion specifications and PCC BIBFRAME data.  相似文献   

我国体育用品制造业转型升级与服务业发展的关系研究

采用中国大陆东部、中西和西部三大经济区2008—2015年的面板数据，运用Johanson面板协整关系检验、Granger因果关系检验与面板数据误差修正模型，实证检验了我国体育用品制造业升级与服务业发展之间的因果关系。研究结果表明：不管是东部经济发达地区，还是中西部经济落后地区，体育用品制造业升级和服务业发展之间的协同互动关系均未建立起来，三大经济区体育用品制造业升级与服务业发展之间仅存在单向的因果关系。在东西部经济区，体育用品制造业升级是服务业发展的长期原因，但在中部经济区，服务业发展则是体育用品制造业升级的长期原因。从整体来看，虽然中国是一个体育用品制造和出口大国，但由于缺乏核心技术，产品全球竞争力较弱，国际话语权仍非常有限，与国内服务业发展相比，三大经济区体育用品制造业发展还处于相对较低的水平。最后，从互补性视角提出我国体育用品制造业与服务业发展的战略举措。  相似文献
