In this study, non-participant observations of visually disabled adult students in extra mural arts education are analysed through Walter Doyle’s theory of ambiguity and risk in classroom tasks. This study finds these students attempted to avoid activity, or re-negotiate lecturers’ expectations, when their performance became especially threatening to their self-esteem. Additionally, it was found that lecturers were often reluctant to push their students as soon as they realised this risk to them. These results appear to show a phenomenon similar to learned helplessness. 相似文献

The idea of a normal university in the 21st century 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The establishment of normal colleges and universities is an important component of building a modern country, which possesses
different value ethos with the universities. The emergence of the école Normale Supérieure in Paris and the local normal schools
has set a new model for teacher education around the world and promoted values and knowledge patterns promoted by them quite
distinctive from those of the traditional European university. In order to improve the quality of teacher education, the models
of teacher education in the U.S., Japan, U.K., etc., are being continually innovated. China has created the teacher education
model different with the U.S., Japan, U.K. and France, which is a contribution to the development of international teacher
education. 相似文献

This paper might be described as a case study, depicting the process of vision development for a new institution of teacher education, established in a time of political transition for Hong Kong. The focus is on issues of cultural identity, and the first part of the article lays out a framework for civilizational dialogue in the post Cold War period. Next the context of educational development is analysed, including the emergence of this new institution, and the demands placed upon it to support a range of educational reforms after Hong Kong's return to China in 1997. The third part of the paper describes the process of developing a vision statement, and the ideas that informed it. The fourth part provides a careful look at four of the nine guiding values chosen for the Institute, showing the particular shape they give to the development of the vision, and the ways in which they are linked to the dialogue of civilizations. 相似文献

The increasing flow of Chinese graduate students to the West for advanced study is examined in the context of earlier attempts to modernize China by introducing ideas and technologies from abroad. The author suggests that the theory of communicative action associated with Habermas may provide a framework for examining the quality and nature of the intellectual interaction now taking place between Chinese scholars and their counterparts in the universities of the capitalist world. This discussion uses three episodes as points of focus; firstly the discussion over intellectual freedom on the 30th anniversary of the Hundred Flowers movement, secondly the debate over political structure reform and finally the student movement of December 1986. The author argues that these occurrences are linked to a fundamental change in the knowledge orientation of Chinese universities. 相似文献
