Two indigenous drugsPremna latifolia Roxb (Agnimandha) andImperata arundinacea Cyril (Darbha) were studied for their anticalculogenic effect at 20 and 100 mg concentrations. Both the concentrations were found to be equally effective in reducing the size of oxalate crystal growthin vitro over a period of 30 days. There was no change in infra red spectra while scanning electron microscope analysis showed development of cracks in the interior of the crystals and a tendency for rupture of crystals. Chemolysis appears to be the mechanism of action of the drugs. 相似文献

Cardiovascular complications are the major cause of morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. An attempt has been made
to evaluate the risk factors for coronary heart disease in type II diabetics. In the present study the levels of fasting and
postprandial plasma glucose, total cholesterol, low density lipoproteins, triglycerides were high and the levels of high density
lipoproteins were low in the type II diabetics compared to controls. The markers of free radical induced injury i.e. malondialdehyde
and nitrite/nitrate were high while total antioxidant status a marker for antioxidant protection against reactive oxygen species
was low in diabetics compared to controls. The study therefore suggests the importance of assessing these markers of oxidative
stress and antioxidant capacity along with the other routine investigations in diabetic patients for initiating antioxidant
therapy in addition to primary and secondary preventive measures to mitigate the devastating consequences of diabetes leading

The senior year design students and I were dismayed when my linear teaching and their habitual rote learning failed in a Middle Eastern University. The gulf between the curricular objectives and our teaching-learning methods intrigued me. I turned this into an action research project that sought to answer the questions, ‘What paradigm shift might we need to migrate from traditional rote learning to deep learning? What attitudinal change and philosophical beliefs would that call for in an instructor?’ The search for a solution metamorphosed me from a disengaged instructor into an empathizing reflecting practitioner. It led my students to active engagement in an enquiry-based learning workshop, which significantly improved their performance. This paper celebrates the journey of our collective deep learning. It explicates how I built my personal theory of teaching praxis through critical consciousness and meta reflection. This knowledge-creation process is empowering and may draw many teacher researchers towards meta-reflexive engagement with the social systems around. These change drivers can initiate institutional overhaul to effect systemic reforms. 相似文献

The Enterprise mobility communication technology provides easy and quick accessibility to data and information integrated into one single touch point device. This device incorporates or integrates all the processes into small applications or App and thus increases the workforce capability of knowledge workers. “App” which is a small set of programming statements installed on a mobile device. It facilitates the easy retrieval of information while the users are mobile. A single touch point can be loaded with the required data and information all the time. The readiness and availability of data facility can reduce the turnaround response time. The application of mobile technology has already picked up the market in distinguished domain worldwide. In the Indian education sector this technology is yet to be adopted. This paper aims at showing how enterprise mobility can facilitate the University system and user preferences in the mobile App. The paper also highlights how data mining techniques can be applied to various processes, hence exploring user patterns. Objectives: This study evaluates malaria vaccine research carried out in different parts of the world during 1972–2004 using different bibliometric indicators. Method: Data have been downloaded from PubMed for the period 1972–2004 using the keywords (malaria* or plasmodium or falciparum) and (vaccine*) in the title and abstract fields. The study examined the pattern of growth of the output, its geographical distribution, profile of different countries in different subfields and pattern of citations using GOOGLE Scholar. Results: Malaria vaccine research output is gradually increasing. The USA, followed by the UK and Australia contributed the highest number of papers. Publication activity has decreased in Switzerland and Sweden, but has increased in Brazil and China. The majority of the countries have focused on the development of asexual blood stage malaria. Citations per paper and incidence of high‐quality papers for the USA, the UK, Papua New Guinea and Denmark are more than the average. The majority of the prolific institutions are located in the USA, the UK, France and Australia. Conclusion: The last two decades have witnessed considerable growth in research output in this field, while a successful malaria vaccine still remains elusive. Interestingly, the countries like the USA, the UK and Australia that lead in the quantity, quality and citation of this output are often not those directly affected by malaria. 相似文献

Adenosine deaminase and protein tyrosine phosphatase activities in liver and peritoneal macrophages were estimated in control,
streptozotocin induced diabetes and insulin treated diabetic groups of Swiss albino mice. Both the enzyme levels were elevated
while glycogen content decreased in the liver of diabetic group of animals as compared to controls, while in insulin treated
group, they were comparable to control levels. In macrophages also, both adenosine deaminase which plays an important role
in their maturation and protein tyrosine phosphatase enzyme involved in their activation were high in diabetic group, whereas

This study confirms the fact that in different respiratory disorders, the status of plasma oxidants and antioxidants shifts
from normal. The status of oxidants in plasma as represented by malondialdehyde (MDA) levels increased significantly in the
conditions of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, bronchiectasis and bronchial asthma. The two vitamin
antioxidants vitamin C and vitamin E showed decreased levels than in controls. In patients with COPD the endogenous antioxidant
viz. reduced glutathione (GSH) estimated from whole blood was comparable to that of control group, whereas in patients with
emphysema, bronchiectasis and bronchial asthma, GSH concentration was increased to that of control group. The activity of
enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) was significantly decreased in all study groups. Pulmonary function tests were found to

The effect of DL α-lipoic acid, a potent antioxidant was studied in relation to certain erythrocyte membrane parameters in
calcium oxalate stone forming rats. Induction of calcium oxalate lithiasis was done by feeding a diet containing 3% w/w sodium
glycollate. Erythrocyte membrane (Na+, K+)-ATPase showed a significant decrease in stone formers whereas (Ca2+)-ATPase showed a significant increase. Lipoic acid administration brought about an elevation in the activity of (Ca2+)-ATPase. Changes in membrane (Mg2+)-ATPase was minimal. Membrane cholesterol and phospholipids were found raised significantly in lithogenic rats. The changes
may be attributed to enhanced lipid peroxidative mechanisms and altered serum lipid profile observed in this group. Treatment
with lipoic acid reduced membrane cholesterol levels. Phospholipids were also decreased moderately. The above observations
suggest that lipoic acid administration to calculogenic rats reduces the erythrocyte strucutral changes observed in this condition. 相似文献
