Sasaki and Biro (2017, Nature Communications, 8, 15049) show that pairs of pigeons can increase the efficiency of their homing routes over several ‘generations’ in which pair members are gradually replaced by naïve birds. Their findings show that socially transmitted cumulative alterations of behavior are not unique to humans and suggest a way to examine potential mechanisms of cultural evolution.  相似文献

This paper reviews and examines critically the literature on caregiver-parent relations in daycare centers and family daycare homes. This literature is characterized by attempts to understand (and evaluate) the social changes and accumulating data regarding formal non-relative childcare in terms of the dynamics of informal, familial forms of care. Instead, it is argued that informal and formal care arrangements are qualitatively different, that neither type is inherently superior, and that each needs to be understood in terms of its own unique systemic and contextual characteristics. Viewing the data on formal care arrangements from this perspective, it is proposed that, 1) contrary to current interpretations, caregivers' ambivalent and critical attitudes toward parents are neither surprising nor a risk factor for children. Rather, these attitudes are an inherent component of the consumer/provider structure of the caregiver-parent relationship system and may actually facilitate the caregivers' involvement with the devalued parent's children; b) the high rates of parental satisfaction with daycare reflect neither a wholehearted endorsement, nor an adequate assessment of care quality. Rather, high satisfaction rates are one product of parents' attempts to cope with perceived marketplace constraints. Further, the narrow focus of the satisfaction research to date has also prevented us from adequately understanding parental perceptions of childcare and how they shape pertinent decision making processes; c) the documented low rates of caregiver-parent contact are an inherent feature of the professionalization process in the daycare system and are not a sufficiently useful indicator of the quality of caregiver-parent relationships; research in this area should expand to explore the relationship's potential buffer function.  相似文献

Abstract

Despite growing interest in promoting environmental education (EE), as in other countries, its status within the formal education system in Israel is still ambiguous and its effectiveness questionable. Proceeding from the view of structure-agent interdependency, the present study focuses on teachers’ identity as key to understanding the situation in their professional field. Analysis is based on in-depth interviews with ten EE teachers in ten public elementary-schools in Israel, to investigate their occupational self-perception as part of the system in which they operate. Findings reveal an ambivalent professional identity and a weak sense of agency as EE teachers. Teachers’ impaired occupational self-image have implications for their potential role in advancing EE in particular and for the educational field in Israel in general.  相似文献

Faculty members from a college in a major university were surveyed to explore the possible relationship between Internet usage and the following dependent variables: computer usage (length of time and perceived expertise), length of time of Internet use, perceived expertise of Internet use, and perceived utility of the Internet. Ninety-seven percent of faculty members have an Internet account. Furthermore, computer literacy and the time one has used computers are correlated with early adoption of the Internet, perceived utility of the Internet is correlated with computer literacy and with Internet usage, and Internet use is correlated with perceived Internet expertise but not with the length of time the faculty member has used the Internet. Highly skilled computer users are more likely to use the network in a more intensive way and have higher appreciation of the network's potential.  相似文献

"学乐"是学习的本位旨趣,指向学习的核心价值,理应成为学习的终极目标。本文承续中西方古典教育中的"乐学"思想,联系现代学习研究成果,通过"学乐"与"学苦"、"苦学"与"乐学"几对概念的辨析,阐明它们的根本区别与联系;立足"学习"与"快乐"的关系勾勒出学乐本质是:基于形式的学能快乐和基于过程的学本快乐,以及作为学习原动力的学促快乐。在厘清学乐内涵的基础上对如何实现、升华学乐展开进一步探讨,并分别提出学以增智、学以强志、学以笃行、学以养善、学以娱情、学以审美六条实现途径,以及得趣、会通、创建、分享四种升华方式,以此阐明正确求取、享用、回应、品味学乐之道。以上探讨为我们指明学乐才是学习的本质追求和最高境界,是对学习本真的还原,有助于当下学习观、教育观的修正和课堂教育教学理念返璞归真。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper focuses on a recently conceptualized construct—sense of authentic inner-compass (AIC)—and two parenting practices promoting it: basic autonomy-support (BAS) and inherent value-demonstration (IVD). Rooted in self-determination theory, sense of AIC refers to the perception that we have self-guiding values, aspirations, and goals, which function like an ‘authentic inner-compass’ that informs us on what we truly value and need. The utility of this construct for understanding morality-related phenomena also in cultures not emphasizing autonomy and authenticity, is demonstrated by a study conducted in two widely different cultures: Bedouin and Jews in Israel. As expected, across cultures, the practices of BAS and IVD were associated with sense of AIC, which then predicted adolescents’ resistance to peer-pressure to engage in antisocial behaviors. Invariance analysis showed a similar pattern across cultures. Discussion focuses on implications of the AIC concept for various moral behaviors, and for value-oriented parenting and moral education.  相似文献

This paper explores the relationship between ego development and psychiatrically relevant behaviors in a group of hospitalized adolescents. Building on Loevinger's model of ego development, we administered the Sentence Completion Test to 114 adolescent girls and boys. To study psychiatric symptoms, Achenbach and Edelbrock's Child Behavior Checklist was used. With these procedures, the Achenbach and Edelbrock factor scores were compared to ego stage using correlational and multiple regression analyses. Findings indicate significant negative correlations with the externalizing and internalizing factors as well as a variety of behavioral subscales. A significant relationship also exists between the total number of symptoms and ego development. Ego development is found to be an important predictor for the externalizing factor and 2 subscales after the background variables of age, sex, and SES are partialed out. Our discussion addresses the question of the relationship between stages and transitions in ego development in relation to psychopathology. In addition, "age-stage dysynchronies" are discussed as ways of understanding psychopathology from a developmental perspective.  相似文献
