The term technological gender gap refers to the idea that males and females have different technology-related attitudes, behaviors, and skills. This article reviews the mounting evidence documenting the existence of a gender gap, which, if ignored, could render large numbers of female students unprepared to meet the technological challenges of the future. Recommendations for ameliorating the technological gender gap are presented for educators and computer-based instruction (CBI) designers who are interested in providing equitable educational opportunities for male and female students. 相似文献

Guided by communicated narrative sense-making, the present study explored the themes that characterize adult siblings’ stories about their experiences with sharing care of aging parents. Interviews with 20 adult siblings revealed the varied and emotional nature of their shared parental caregiving stories. Adult siblings primarily constructed meaning of their caregiving experiences by drawing upon three overarching narratives: (1) the narrative of (in)equity, (2) the narrative of ideal versus real, and (3) the narrative of interconnectedness. These findings highlight the need for adult siblings providing care for their parents to work together as a team, exercise empathy in their interactions, and express gratitude for one another’s contributions. Several practical applications are discussed that can help siblings manage and overcome the relational challenges associated with caring for a parent. 相似文献

This article reports data from a study of how teachers use child observations in one State in Australia. It argues that the current economic and political climate has meant changes for most early childhood settings catering for children prior to school entry. How teachers in these various settings deal with changes in relation to child observation depends on the contexts in which they work. The paper suggests that the purpose of observing children is changing and that traditionally accepted ways of writing child observations may be under threat. Cet article rend compte des resultats d'une etude concernant la maniere dont les enseignants utilisent l'observation des enfants dans un Etat d'Australie. Elle avance que le climat economique et politique actuel a cause des changements dans la plupart des centres d'enseignement prescolaire. Comment les enseignants de ces divers centres repondent a ces changements en ce qui concerne l'observation des enfants depend du contexte dans lequel us travaillent. L'article suggere que le but de l'observation des enfants est en train de changer, et qu'il se peut que les facons dont on notait traditionnellement ces observations soient menacees. Este articulo reporta los resultados de un estudio sobre la utilizacion de observaciones infantiles por parte de educadores en uno de los estados australianos. Discute que el actual ambiente economico y politico ha transformado a la mayoria de los ambientes preescolares. Sostiene que la manera en la cual los educadores en estos multiples ambientes enfrentan los cambios asociados con la observacion infantil depende del contexto en el cual ellos trabajen. Current recommendations of the Adult Treatment Panel and Adolescents Treatment Panel of National Cholesterol Education Program
make the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in serum the basis of classification and management of hypercholesterolemia.
A number of direct homogenous assays based on surfactant/solubility principles have evolved in the recent past. This has made
LDL-C estimation less cumbersome than the earlier used methods. Here we compared one of the direct homogenous assays with
the widely used Friedewald’s method of estimation of LDL-C to see the differences and correlation. We used direct homogenous
assay kit to estimate serum LDL-C and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Serum Triglyceride (TG) and Total Cholesterol
(TC) was estimated and using Friedewald’s formula LDL-C was calculated. The LDL-C level obtained by both methods in 893 fasting
serum samples were compared. The statistical methods used were paired t-test and Pearson’s correlation.
There was significant difference in the mean LDL-C levels obtained by the two methods at the TG levels <200 mg/dl (p<0.02)
and TC levels >150 mg% (p<0.001). The correlation coefficient (r) between Friedewald’s and direct assay estimation was 0.88.
Friedewald’s method classified 23.5 % of patients as high cardiac risk whereas there were 17.58% by direct assay.
Both had good correlation even though the serum triglyceride and total cholesterol levels affect the difference in LDL-C estimated
by both methods. Taking into account the cost and performance, Friedewald’s method is as good or even better for classifying
