In Finnish VET, students’ work experience is explicitly defined as workplace learning, instead of the practice of already
learnt skills. Therefore, vocational students’ learning periods in the workplace are goal-oriented, guided and assessed. This
paper examines the characteristics of students’ workplace learning and compares them with the characteristics of employees’
workplace learning. The data were collected with an Internet questionnaire from final-year vocational students (N = 3106). In total, 1603 students (52 %) answered the questionnaire. The data were analysed using quantitative methods. The
results indicate that features typical of employees’ workplace learning can also be found in student learning as well. However,
VET-related workplace learning has a number of characteristics that have not been brought to light in research on employees’
workplace learning thus far. We suggest that in developing educational practices it would be useful to draw on some of the
features of workplace learning such as the use of collaboration and shared practices; conversely for workplace practices it
would be useful to draw on some of the features of educational practices. For example, by utilising the structures of students’
workplace learning system presented in this study, learning at work could be transformed towards more goal-directed, guided
and assessed activity. 相似文献

This paper discusses how discursive power and creativity are found to be inter-related in a context not traditionally associated
with creative work; the operating theatre of a hospital. Here, it is proposed that creativity relies on socio-cultural factors
emphasizing the practical nature of creativity, and highlighting the fact that a large part of our creativity connects with
our everyday social life and practices. We assume that power is exercised in an embedded manner in everyday work and continuously
reproduced and redefined between the social actors. The data utilized here derive from a collective ethnographic research
project focusing on surgical workplace learning and professional identity. Observational data and field notes from work situations
in operating theatres are utilized. The paper illustrates the manifestations of discursive power through three selected example
episodes. Our findings show the intertwined nature of power and creativity in OT work practices. The power relations do not
function only to restrict collaboration but can also promote collective creativity. Collective creativity in inter-professional
work is exercise of agency in the workplace, especially with the actors with less power. Shared creative solutions in the
work practices are achieved in a shared organizational culture in which power becomes discursively internalised and institutionalised.
We argue that new insights will be brought up in the area of workplace learning and professional development by taking into
account the institutionalized collective acts in working communities. The study supports the need for further development
of inter-professional collaboration and learning in health care work organizations. 相似文献

This study investigated an international, inter-university and multidisciplinary online course with the aim of helping higher education students develop competencies for solving complex problems in collaboration with their peers and stakeholders. The course design was informed by the knowledge creation framework and ideas about cross-boundary collaboration. We attempted to enrich perspectives on knowledge creation by investigating how higher education students (N = 42) from different fields of study and from 17 different nationalities perceived, built and regulated cross-boundary collaboration in the pursuit of real-life problems presented by companies or non-governmental organisations. Drawing on data from 11 in-depth group interviews and team reports of students who had completed this course, we showed the kinds of activities the students considered relevant for cross-boundary collaboration and knowledge creation online. Given this extended context for knowledge creation, the study contributes to the pedagogical development of online learning in higher education. 相似文献

To investigate potential infant‐related antecedents characterizing later attachment security, this study tested whether attention to facial expressions, assessed with an eye‐tracking paradigm at 7 months of age (N = 73), predicted infant–mother attachment in the Strange Situation Procedure at 14 months. Attention to fearful faces at 7 months predicted attachment security, with a smaller attentional bias to fearful expressions associated with insecure attachment. Attachment disorganization in particular was linked to an absence of the age‐typical attentional bias to fear. These data provide the first evidence linking infants' attentional bias to negative facial expressions with attachment formation and suggest reduced sensitivity to facial expressions of negative emotion as a testable trait that could link attachment disorganization with later behavioral outcomes. 相似文献

The field of workplace learning lacks empirical studies that view workplace practices as places for learning and see these practices in a critical light. Accordingly, the aim of this study is, first, to describe examples of everyday shared practice and consider what kinds of various conflicting aims and demands exist in it. Second, the purpose is to explore what and how it is possible to learn through these shared practices in the area of design and development work. The empirical material consists of ethnographic observations made in two organizations in Finland. Three thematic lines were extracted from field notes and transcribed work talk on the basis of ethnographic and adapted membership categorization analysis. They suggest that the maintenance of a good atmosphere was an important component of shared practice and learning through it. Shared practice was also found to be situated and open‐ended and it contained conflicts and contradictory aims. The findings reported here suggest that to survive, everyday work involves doing and learning, and sometimes disagreeing. Conflicts seem to strengthen a team’s ability to co‐operate and to sustain functional social relations. Attention should thus be paid to the constantly changing processes of work and to situational analyses of the different options within practice provided by the various aims of the work itself and the tasks done in accordance with those aims. 相似文献

Hope is positively correlated with educational attainment and health. Interventions based on project-based learning (PBL) may increase youth hope. This study examined how a PBL intervention affected hope among urban students of color. Students in health classes were invited to participate. A PBL health class was implemented in four classrooms. The standard curriculum was implemented in four control classrooms. Questionnaires with measures of hope were administered at three time points. Generalized linear modeling examined the intervention effect on hope. There were no intervention effects on hope. There were significant differences in hope between certain racial and ethnic groups. One PBL class may not increase hope among urban students of color. Research should identify approaches that enhance hope in order to increase educational attainment and health. 相似文献

This paper analyses and discusses different constraints on workplace learning, vocational development and formation of identity. We ask how the learning and development of vocational identities are related to the various learning constraints and restrictions present in the socio-cultural contexts of the workplace. The study utilizes 20 interviews of industrial designers and nursing staff in Finland. The data on the vocational students was collected with Internet questionnaires (N?=?1125) from these two fields; technology and transport, and social services and health care. The results indicated that constraints on learning and professional/vocational identity development at work were mainly social in nature among employees as well as students. Therefore, we suggest that the most necessary conditions for workers’ and students’ learning are related to the feeling of “weness” that arises from individuals’ active participation in the social community. 相似文献
