A “digital revolution” has introduced new privacy violations concerning access to information stored on electronic devices. The present two studies assessed how U.S. children ages 5–17 and adults (N = 416; 55% female; 67% white) evaluated those accessing digital information belonging to someone else, either location data (Study 1) or digital photos (Study 2). The trustworthiness of the tracker (Studies 1 and 2) and the privacy of the information (Study 2) were manipulated. At all ages, evaluations were more negative when the tracker was less trustworthy, and when information was private. However, younger children were substantially more positive overall about digital tracking than older participants. These results, yielding primarily medium-to-large effect sizes, suggest that with age, children increasingly appreciate digital privacy considerations. 相似文献

Lymphatic filariasis caused mainly by infection fromW. bancrofti andB. malayi remains a major cause of clinical morbidity in tropical and subtropical countries. Analysis ofB. malayi mf, infective larval and adult worm lysates for the activity of enzymes led to the demonstration of activities of three key
enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism viz., Malate dehydrogenase (MDH), Malic enzyme (ME) and Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase
(G6PDH) in all the three stages of the parasite. The specific activity of all the three dehydrogenases was significantly high
in mf lysate compared to their activity in lysates of the other two stages (P<0.001). Analysis by native polyacrylamide gel
to their activity inlysates of the other two stages (P<0.001). Analysis by native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE)
using 7.5% non-gradient gel showed the presence of two isoforms of each of the three enzymes (MDH, ME & G6PDH) in mf lysate,
while only one form of each enzyme was present in L3 larval and adult worm lysates. Further proteolytic enzyme activity was demonstrated both in microfilarial and infective larval
lysates ofB. malayi. While both mf and L3 larval lysates showed optimal protease activity at alkaline pH of 9.0, the mf lysate showed increased activity also at pH
3.0. The infective larval lysate was markedly inhibited by Tosylamide-L-Phenylalanine chloromethyl ketone (TPCK), a thiol
protease inhibitor, while the protease activity in mf lysate was significantly inhibited by both TPCK and a serine protease
inhibitor Phenyl Methyl Sulphonyl Flouride (PMSF). In sodium do-decyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE),
using gelatin copolymerized gel, the microfilarial lysate showed 3 protease molecules of 40 kDa, 180 kDa and 200 kDa and the
L3 larval lysate had 6 protease molecules of 18, 25, 37, 49, 70 and 200 kDa size. 相似文献

During the last few decades, theoretical physicists have introducedsymmetries (which may or may not have any geometrical interpretation) with the aim of solving difficult problems. In this article, we
shall first present the salient features of one such symmetry calledsupersymmetry. Then, we shall show the power of supersymmetry in tackling quantum mechanical systems described by non-trivial potentials. 相似文献

Serum thyroglobulin (Tg) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) measurements have evolved as important analytes for monitoring the prognosis of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer, post-thyroidectomy. Individual analyte immunoassay is the current practice in clinical pathology, but the simultaneous assay for all relevant analytes for a given disease, can reduce assay costs, improve patient compliance and give the clinician more information for an unequivocal diagnosis. Microarray immunoassay (MI) can achieve this goal and, hence, we have developed and validated a immuno-radiometric MI for quantitation of serum TSH and Tg by using highly micro-porous polycarbonate (PC) track-etched membranes (TEM) to immobilize the monoclonal anti-TSH and polyclonal anti-Tg antibodies in ~1 mm diameter spots. Non-competitive immunoassays were performed using mixture of 125I labeled monoclonal anti-TSH and anti-Tg antibodies. Phosphorimager was used to quantify the bound radioactivity. TSH and Tg were detected with detection limit of 0.07 µIU/ml and 0.13 ng/ml respectively, which is lower than the clinically required cut-off level. The assay showed: acceptable intra-assay precision within 20 % and recovery in the range of 76–111.2 %. MI compared well with the established immunoradiometric assay (IRMA) with r = 0.98, p < 0.01 (n = 41). No cross-reactivity was seen between the immobilized antibodies. Although two hormones are addressed in this report, MI using PC TEM and isotopic/non-isotopic tracers has the potential for highly automated multiplexed analysis. 相似文献

The present paper deals with the determination of unknown temperature and thermal stresses on the upper surface of a thick circular plate. A thick circular plate is subjected to arbitrary known interior temperature under steady state. The fixed circular edge and lower surface of the circular plate are thermally insulated. The governing heat conduction equation has been solved by using Hankel transform methods. The results are obtained in series form in terms of Bessel's functions. The results for displacement and stresses have been computed numerically and illustrated graphically. 相似文献

The societal demand for inspiring and engaging science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students and preparing our workforce for the emerging creative economy has necessitated developing students’ self-efficacy and understanding of engineering design processes from as early as elementary school levels. Hands-on engineering design activities have shown the potential to promote middle school students’ self-efficacy and understanding of engineering design processes. However, traditional classrooms often lack hands-on engineering design experiences, leaving students unprepared to solve real-world design problems. In this study, we introduce the framework of a toy design workshop and investigate the influence of the workshop activities on students’ understanding of and self-efficacy beliefs in engineering design. Using a mixed method approach, we conducted quantitative analyses to show changes in students’ engineering design self-efficacy and qualitative analyses to identify students’ understanding of the engineering design processes. Findings show that among the 24 participants, there is a significant increase in students’ self-efficacy beliefs after attending the workshop. We also identified major themes such as design goals and prototyping in students’ understanding of engineering design processes. This research provides insights into the key elements of middle school students’ engineering design learning and the benefits of engaging middle school students in hands-on toy design workshops. 相似文献

ABSTRACTInclusion refers to the practice of educating students with disabilities in the general education setting. This concept stems from the seminal United States Congressional legislation PL 94-142, and its subsequent reauthorised amendments, which mandate that students with disabilities be educated in the general education setting with their ‘non-disabled’ peers to the maximum extent possible. IDEIA’s legal mandates underscore the stark reality of discrimination and exclusion faced by individuals with disabilities within schools and society. Although progress has been made in advancing equity agendas of access and academic achievement, few would deny that significant work remains. If all individuals, including those with disabilities are to achieve their birthright of full integration into society, schools must reflect integration at all levels. This article provides a historical perspective on the inclusion movement, discusses the role school leaders play in ensuring inclusive environments and concludes with recommendations for future school leaders and teachers. 相似文献

Myoglobin is dark red colour heme containing protein, stored in muscle. Change in permeability of myolemma causes myoglobin leak in plasma, which is cleared by kidney swiftly. Differentiating myoglobinuria from hemoglobinuria is important. Clinicians concern over myoglobinuria is to protect the patient from acute renal disease. We present a case of primary myoglobinuria, its clinical symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. 相似文献

Insulin is a major protein hormone secreted by the β-cells of the pancreas and is important for the control of diabetes. Insulin
is usually administered to diabetic patients through subcutaneous injection. This mode of therapy has certain inherent disadvantages
such as local pain, itching and insulin lipodystrophy around the injection site. Hence, pharmaceutical scientists have been
trying to design an oral delivery system for insulin. Many challenges are associated with the oral delivery of insulin, relating
to the physical and chemical stability of the hormone, and its absorption and metabolism in the human body. Here we discuss
various strategies for the oral delivery of insulin that are being tried out, as well as methods used to improve the absorption
of orally consumed insulin and to reduce its degradation by digestive enzymes.
