Thyroid hormones regulate the renal hemodynamics and basal metabolic rate of most cells. This hospital-based case-control
study was done to evaluate the changes in biochemical markers of liver and kidney function in hypothyroid subjects before
and after treatment. The study included 176 subjects randomly selected from Thyroid clinics. Serum T3, T4, TSH, Liver and Kidney Function tests were analysed using standard kits. Forty-six hypothyroid patients were re-evaluated
6 weeks after thyroxine substitution therapy. Hypothyroid subjects (n=80) showed significantly raised serum creatinine and
uric acid levels as compared to euthyroid subjects (n=96). After 6 weeks of thyroxine replacement, serum creatinine and uric
acid decreased significantly and were comparable to euthyroid group. A positive correlation of ALT, AST, uric acid, protein
and albumin with TSH levels (p<0.05) and negative correlation of serum T4 levels with ALT, AST, proteins (p<0.05) was observed in the hypothyroid group. Hypothyroidism results in reversible impairment
of hepatorenal function. 相似文献

A multi-ethnic sample of 248, ages 13–26, was used to examine the effects of age, gender, and ethnic group membership on ethnic identity and ego identity scores. Subjects were recruited from college and public schools in a large northeastern metropolitan area. The multigroup ethnic identity measure (MEIM) was used to assess ethnic identity and ego identity status was measured by the extended objective measure of ego identity status (EOMEIS). An age by ethnic group design was employed. Consistent findings of significant ethnic group differences in levels of ethnic identity were observed. Age and ethnic group were found to contribute differently to ethnic identity and ego identity status. The relationship between ethnic identity and ego identity status was found to be pronounced among subjects of color but not as dramatic as hypothesized. 相似文献

In the first article of this series we showed how redundancy introduced into a message transmitted over a noisy channel could improve the reliability of transmission. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of revising goals focused on content and audience awareness on the
persuasive writing of fifth- and eighth-grade students. Students were randomly assigned to three different goal conditions:
a general goal; a goal to improve content; and a goal to improve content and communication with an audience. Final drafts
of essays were scored for elements of persuasive discourse relevant to content and audience and for overall persuasiveness.
Students in the audience goal group were more likely than both other groups to consider opposing positions and rebut them.
Students in both the content and audience goal groups wrote essays that were more persuasive than essays by students in the
general goal group. The results also indicate that eighth-grade students wrote more persuasively than fifth-grade students
and that girls wrote more persuasively than boys. 相似文献

Expander graphs are graphs in which every set of vertices has an unusually large number of neighbours. It is a remarkable
fact that graphs of this kind exist. Even more remarkable is the spectrum of applications of these graphs, ranging from providing
new insights in the field of computational complexity theory to the solution of problems in communication. In this article
