This paper provides an overview of the needs and threats for digital preservation and summarizes the findings from project PARSE.Insight. This project, co‐funded by the EU, contains one of the first large worldwide surveys about digital preservation including most players of the STM information chain: researchers, libraries, data managers, publishers, and research funders. One of the conclusions is that in the present data deluge, it is extremely important that all players in the information chain work together on proper digital preservation of all research output, to ensure its future usability, understandability, and authenticity. This poses a new role for publishers who can ensure better discoverability and citability via good linking and integration of data and publications.  相似文献

Recent findings have shown that deaf children have a different rationale for the emergence of emotions than their hearing peers. It was hypothesised that deaf children--in case of negative outcomes--are more concentrated on the loss of the desired state (which evokes sadness predictions), whereas their hearing peers focus more on the conditions that lead to the negative outcome (which brings about anger predictions, especially when the situation does not seem totally hopeless yet). The results in this research, obtained from nine- and 11-year-old deaf and hearing children, confirmed this pattern and showed that deaf children tend to concentrate primarily on the fulfilment of desires in their emotion predictions and explanations, whereas they neglected the factors that had led to the negative outcome. Also in contrast with hearing children, they ignored the controllability of the situation. Possibly, deaf children keep their messages short and simple to minimise a potential misinterpretation and they might hold on to this out of routine. Another explanation is that deaf children lack more advanced theory of mind capacities, due to the limited means of communication they are faced with in a hearing environment. Consequently, they have restricted opportunities to learn from their own and others' experiences in this respect.  相似文献

The essence of text mining and data mining is that a machine and software are used for content analysis of large digital corpora. The Publishing Research Consortium commissioned a study on content mining of scholarly journal articles with 29 expert interviews and an international survey among publishers. The main results are: (i) content mining developments appear to be accelerating with more applications in more areas; (ii) third‐party demand for content mining is widespread but still at low levels of frequency; (iii) publishers' permissions for content mining are quite liberal, especially for research‐driven mining requests; (iv) half of the publisher respondents undertake mining of their own content; and (v) content mining is on the rise – publishers and third parties both report an increase in planned mining activities. As content mining of journal articles spreads and intensifies, cross‐publisher solutions can better help facilitate content mining. The study investigated the interest and willingness of publishers to support a set of different solutions, from one shared content mining platform to commonly agreed access terms for mining and standardization of mining‐friendly content formats.  相似文献

Although there is a tendency to develop policy plans on adult education at a European level, there are still large differences between the various EU countries. These national policy contexts depend on historical, cultural, economic and political factors and can have a profound impact on the way adult education is shaped and developed within a country. Two examples of such policies are presented to clarify this point. In the Netherlands, there is a strong emphasis on the vocational side of adult education. This is for a large part the result of the introduction of the Law on Adult and Vocational Education ( Wet Educatie en Beroepsonderwijs ) in 1996. The non vocational branch of the sector was rather marginalised by this new law. In Belgium, there has been a great effort to support, develop and streamline non vocational adult education. The special Flemish government decree ( Decreet betreffende het sociaal-cultureel volwassenenwerk ) of 2003 was very important in that regard. This decree regulates all aspects of non vocational education or socio-cultural work, including funding and quality assurance. Although the Flemish decree could be seen as a good practice of upgrading non-formal adult education through legislation, it could also be considered a typical Flemish case, rooted in the traditions of adult education in Flanders.  相似文献
