As is well known, interest is the best teacher and it can cause motivation."Motivation is what moves the students from boredom to interest,It’s something like engine and steering wheel of an automobile."(Spolsky.B. 1989) So I decided to adopt some different kinds of games in my lessons to arouse the learners’ interest and motivate them, and help them keep up their English learning.  相似文献

The Glass Menagerie is Tennessee Williams’s first successful play. He uses several symbols in this play and enforces the tragic effect of the characters. Most people think that the unicorn represents Laura herself, especially her peculiarity, but to my understanding, it’s more like Jim O’Connor, rare and special yet tragic. My essay provides a new interpretation to the symbolic meaning of the unicorn, highlighting the tragic and fragile feature of it.  相似文献

Invisibility is crucial to construct identity in Ralph Ellison’s novel Invisible Man.Being invisible like a formless phantom and having only the voice echoing is a way of pushing the human existence to its ultimate state.Without the distraction of the body, the human identity could stand out like a candle in the darkness. The process of breaking out of the body is significant to the modern man, because modernity causes a sense of identity loss in them.  相似文献

I took a trip to Beijing with my parents during the seven-day holiday. We all had a happy time.On the first day,we went to the Wangfujing Street. It’s a busy shopping street. We went into many stores.I didn’t buy any clothes but bought two books in the Wangfujing Bookstore. On the second day,we climbed the Great Wall. The wall looks like the tail of a huge dragon. While I was climbing,I thought of the saying"One who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a hero."Later in  相似文献

Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents.Every day they are very busy trying to earn money in order to pay the high tuition for my brother and me.They don’t act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV.In their opinion,“I love you”is too luxurious for them to say.Sending?owers to each other on Valentine’s Day is even more out of the question. Finally my father has a bad temper. When he is very tired from the hard work,it is easy for him to lose hi…  相似文献

John Steinbeck(1902-1968) is a famous American novelist. The Chrysanthemums was considered to be one of his finest short stories which has become progressively more influential in gender studies during the following decades. As the protagonist, Elisa unfolds herself in front of the readers about her rebellion and submission to the reigning patriarchal ideology. In the paper, I try to present Elisa’s mind journey in a male-dominating society, using gender studies analysis. The theme of this story is to describe women’s position in a male-centered and controlled culture. In order to give a most justifiable analysis of the theme of this short story, I base my study of Elisa’s mind journey on the prospective of gender studies.  相似文献

William Wordsworth was England’s Poet Laureate. He is the Romantic poet who is most often described as a"nature"write, and he is always sensitive to every subtle change in the world around him. In my opinion, his love for nature is boundless. To him, nature acts as a substitute for imaginative and intellectual engagement with the development of embodied human beings in their diverse circumstances. It’s nature that gives him knowledge and strength. In this paper, I want to narrow Wordsworth’s conception of nature, and then we can find the harmony in the community of men and nature.  相似文献

There are many different views among scholars about the motif of Hawthome’s "Red Cross".In my opinion, the most meaningful view is from an American critic. He said that "Red Cross" is a novel describing the divergence between natural man and social man.As my part, this divergence can be understood on two levels. The first is the conflict between thongs of people represent the benefits of natural man and the other throngs of people represent the social man’s benefits;the second is the conflict of natural character and social character in everybody’s soul. The author tried to make those two conflicts to a certain agreement, and ended with a concordant state. Then who win? Who fail?  相似文献

This paper aims to interpret"Wuthering Heights"in the standpoint of ecocriticism."Ecocriticism is the study of the relationship between literature and ecology."(Panny)The ecocritic considers how nature is reflected and perceived in literary texts and tries to illuminate people’s understanding of how human interacting with nature.Nature in this novel is not merely everywhere. She is an independent character like Heathcliff and Catherine, too.Through"Wuthering Heights"Emily Bront?expressed her ideal of returning to nature and the final convergence of nature and civilization.Nowadays, however, the ecological crisis is far more serious than Emily’s days.Perhaps the ecological wisdom expressed in this work will give us valuable lessons.  相似文献

Characters in Bible are like the coin possessing two sides. David, the most complicated figure in Bible, is just a case in point. From this perspective, this paper tries to use the principle of binary opposition to analyze the characterization of David in Bible, that is, David’s tolerance vs. vengeance, piety vs. impiety, and iron heart vs. sentiment.  相似文献

As for translation principle, people have different opinions. The principle of equivalent translation maybe is one of the most reasonable ones in today’s translation world in my eyes. This paper focuses on the possibility and the condition to be achieved the biggest equivalence of the semantic, pragmatic and culture in order to get the conclusion that the translation equivalence is the proper principle.Besides, this paper has also discussed the pragmatic equivalence and cultural equivalence.  相似文献

"Beauty is truth, truth beauty"-the famous line in English romantic poet John Keats’Ode on a Grecian Urn-has triggered wide discussion and numerous interpretations. From the point of"negative capability", a phrase first coined by Keats himself, this paper is attempting to display the consistency between that poetic line and the poet’s creation and life attitude on the whole. For this purpose, this paper will mainly introduce and interpret five of Keats’famous odes in the order of their display of his"rising acceptance of life": Ode to a Nightingale, Ode on a Grecian Urn, Ode to Autumn, Ode on Melancholy and Ode on Indolence. This paper would like to show in the first three Keats’s positive quest in different aspects and on certain levels, the fourth the underlying tone of life’s polyphonous song, and the final the"negative capability"that constitutes his healthy attitude toward creation and life. Finally, this paper hopes to demonstrate that it is such capability that enables the poet to growingly accept life, and it is also essential to him as a philosophical poet.  相似文献

Some learners and instructors of English language are inclined to consider the phrases like"you know""well"to be meaningless pause-fillers, which only exist to make the utterance fluent, thus they don’t like to use them too often in speech. This article gives a psycholinguistic study of the discourse marker"you know", not only does it relate the use to the speaker’s complex cognitive process in the production of speech, but also it illustrates how"you know"functions in the interaction between the speaker and the hearer. Finally, we come to conclude that it is useful and meaningful in our speech.  相似文献
