This article describes a collaboration between the Department of Management and the Li Koon Chun Finance Learning Centre in the Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre at the University of Toronto Mississauga. It describes the planning and delivery of a new 4th-year course on Mergers and Acquisitions for the 2011 winter term, along with practical tips on how to build successful collaborations between different organizational units within a university. The strong positive student feedback indicates that this faculty–library collaboration was a success. This experience and partnership can be modeled at many other academic institu- tions. 相似文献

In 2003, a unique joint library was created. A partnership between the San Jose Public Library system and San Jose State University, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library serves a city population of more than a million and a campus population of over 30,000 students. With different patrons and different missions, bringing the two library cultures and functions together presented many challenges, but the library today is a vital, innovative space for learning. In the ten years since its opening, however, the cost savings envisioned when the library was created have not been realized. Also, the partnership originally presented in the library's organizational structure has undergone alterations. This restructuring was driven by changes in funding, staffing, and patron needs. Despite this organizational evolution, the King Library still provides a richer resource to its communities than either partner could have provided alone and can serve as a model to other communities considering the creation of a joint library. 相似文献

In 2015, student learning programs at the University of Saskatchewan moved organizationally to the university library. While these services resided physically in the library as part of the Learning Commons partnership, this recent change presents the library with a new focus and responsibility for broader student learning support and academic skill development. Highlighting examples of organizational integration of student learning support, this article uses a proximity perspective, suggesting that geographical proximity of services in the learning commons does not go far enough to achieve the deeper collaboration and integration necessary for holistic and integrated learning, and that organizational proximity is needed. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThunder Bay Public Library (TBPL) was in a Red Ocean of competition, particularly from online services. Personal visits and physical competition had fallen by 30% over a ten-year period. TBPL needed to create a new Blue Ocean of uncontested market space. They achieved this by using Blue Ocean Strategy to reconstruct market boundaries, focus on the big picture not the numbers, reach beyond existing demand, get the strategic sequence right, overcome key organizational hurdles, and build execution into strategy. TBPL applied this strategy to achieve a Blue Ocean Shift, using an analytical framework and tools: choose the right place to start with a Pioneer-Migrator-Settler Map; collectively build one simple picture that captures the current state of play with a Strategy Canvas; discover the pain points of patrons imposed by TBPL with a Buyer Utility Map; develop alternative strategic options that achieve differentiation and low cost with a Four Actions Framework; select a blue ocean move, conduct rapid market tests, and launch the move. The TBPL Blue Ocean shift was from a stand-alone single-purpose public library to a partnership driven multiple purpose community hub. 相似文献

Abstract Supporting global health priorities through the development of robust health science librarianship partnerships is of significant importance. Increased demand for synthesizing evidence-based information, collating quality resources, and increasing research productivity to improve human health requires integration of library and information science skills and expertise. The Health Sciences Library (HSL) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), exists to be an indispensable partner in health information and knowledge, teaching and learning, and research. As global efforts at UNC expanded, the HSL sought to ensure that our global engagement strategy and integration were aligned with campus priorities and partner needs. The HSL created a global research partnership plan: identify resources that improve efficiency, increase access to information, build in-country capacity and expertise—all while strengthening collaborations across multiple countries. Creating a meaningful and sustainable engagement strategy was central to envisioning our path forward and can be used as a framework for consideration by librarians in similar settings. 相似文献

A "Digital Divide" in information and technological literacy exists in Utah between small hospitals and clinics in rural areas and the larger health care institutions in the major urban area of the state. The goals of the outreach program of the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah address solutions to this disparity in partnership with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine-- Midcontinental Region, the Utah Department of Health, and the Utah Area Health Education Centers. In a circuit-rider approach, an outreach librarian offers classes and demonstrations throughout the state that teach information-access skills to health professionals. Provision of traditional library services to unaffiliated health professionals is integrated into the library's daily workload as a component of the outreach program. The Metro Early College High School is the first Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics-based high school program in Columbus, Ohio, and was developed in partnership with The Ohio State University and other major institutions. One feature of Metro Early College High School was that it would not provide a library on site, but rather would use the collections and services of The Ohio State University library system. This article examines the resources and services that have helped the school and discusses various approaches to improve off-campus online library access and research instruction. A student survey and in-person teacher interviews were conducted to address access issues and to consider new approaches to research instruction. 相似文献

This literature review covers a wide range of publications (articles, books, reports and government publications) that provide an overview of the wider topic of partnership working. It is not a systematic review, but the authors' personal review, drawing largely on the resources available in the King's Fund Library. Partnership working is a key component of the UK government's modernization agenda, particularly in the health field. However, the principles of achieving successful partnership are generally applicable.
