The Nonnative English Speaking Teachers(NNETs)Scheme has been in place for over 20 years in the colleges in China and yet Native English Speaking Teachers(NETs)have appeared in the colleges in recent years.In such a condition,this article reports a comparative study of NETs’and NNETs’interaction in college English class from the students’perspective.Data were collected from two postgraduate classes who were both taught by the NET and the NNET in Tianjin Foreign Studies University in China with the methods of interviews.Results showed that the NET’s interaction makes the students more active and relaxed in the class.  相似文献

中国小学阶段的英语早期半浸入式教学实验是在中国、加拿大、美国三国协作课题组(CCUEI)通力合作下完成的.浸入式课程的开发经历了两个阶段:早期半浸入式学科课程模式;早期部分时间浸入式综合课程模式.在实验中所建构的浸入式教学原则是:融合性、习得性、听说领先、不用母语做中介、活动性、"高浓度".对语音意识、认知能力、英汉两种语言能力、浸入式及母语授课的学科学习进行的测试和评价结果发现,浸入式实验班儿童的成绩显著高于控制班.这个历时6年的实验已取得了令人可喜的成绩,但也面临着师资和课程方面的挑战.  相似文献

An experimental study was conducted comparing the effects of dual language, or two-way immersion (TWI) and monolingual English immersion (EI) preschool education programs on children's learning. Three-and four-year old children were randomly assigned by lottery to either a newly established TWI Spanish/English program or a monolingual English program in the same district. Children in the study were from both Spanish and English home language backgrounds. All classrooms in the study used the High/Scope curriculum, and all met high standards for teacher qualifications, ratio, and class size. The TWI program alternated between English and Spanish weekly by rotating children between two classrooms (and teachers) each week. Programs were compared on measures of children's growth in language, emergent literacy, and mathematics. Children in both types of classrooms experienced substantial gains in language, literacy, and mathematics. No significant differences between treatment groups were found on English language measures. Among the native Spanish speakers, the TWI program produced large gains in Spanish vocabulary compared to the EI program. Both TWI and EI approaches boosted the learning and development of children including ELL students, as judged by standard score gains. TWI also improved the Spanish language development of English language learners (ELL) and native English speaking children without losses in English language learning.  相似文献

This paper discusses the question of why and how class size can make a difference to teaching and learning from the students?? perspective. Secondary school contexts and, in particular, the students?? own voice on the issue of class size represent an under-researched area for class size studies. This paper draws on data from three case studies that examined secondary school English classes in Hong Kong (one large and one reduced-size class in each case). Both classes were of the same grade and taught by the same teacher. This paper positions the case studies within a broader context that focuses on class size and the processes that appear to be mediated by class size reduction. It also draws on interview data and findings from classroom observations. Notably, these data all suggest that students perceive smaller classes as being able to foster a greater sense of belonging and cohesion in their classroom, closer relations with teachers and enhanced participation levels in classroom activities. Crucially, findings also suggest that smaller classes can help to overcome some key cultural obstacles to learning such as language learning anxiety and the issue of ??face??. Some implications for teachers, trainers and researchers are also presented.  相似文献

A major issue in English language teaching in Turkey and other monolingual countries is the teaching of spoken English. This article reports the initial and final stages of an action research study which used student negotiation to enhance student engagement in speaking classes. The research was conducted in the English Language Teaching Department of a university in Turkey and involved the provision of student-negotiated speaking classes for one term during which qualitative and quantitative data collected from students through questionnaires on a weekly basis informed the design of the speaking activities. The results of content analysis and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests showed that student negotiation promoted student engagement through providing speaking classes appropriate to students’ needs and interests, which resulted in more positive perceived speaking ability and greater willingness to communicate. This study demonstrates the significance of student negotiation in speaking classes and has implications for enhancing student engagement in speaking classroom activities.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Flipped classes are well-known for reversing the typical in-class lecture and out-of-class homework structure by instructing students to learn by themselves from on-line learning materials and inviting them to ask questions based on their individual difficulties in class. Many attempts at integrating this teaching method into English as a foreign language (EFL) classrooms have proven to be beneficial to students’ learning achievement and motivation. However, there is little research on how to organize interactive, engaging and effective in-class activities for an EFL flipped classroom. In this study, a student response system (SRS) is proposed to support teachers in organizing in-class activities in a flipped class. To investigate the effectiveness of this approach, a quasi-experiment was conducted in an EFL classroom in an engineering school. The experimental group used the SRS to do in-class activities while the control group followed the conventional method. The results showed that the use of the SRS increased students’ learning motivation and self-efficacy in learning English grammar and improved their participation and engagement in the in-class activities of the flipped learning process. Furthermore, the questionnaire results showed that students accepted the SRS as an instructional method in an EFL flipped class. However, the use of the SRS was not effective in improving students’ grammar learning achievement.  相似文献

本文探索了从课程文本阅读入手,通过构建真实社会情景展开的写作教学实践及其对英语师范生学习成长的影响。作者采用定性与定量相结合的方法,选取某校英语专业三年级26名师范生及1名综英任课教师为研究对象,全程参与并记录教学实施过程,并以初稿、二稿、同伴互评、反思文本及教师点评为主要数据来源。研究结果显示,通过开展新模型下的写作教学实践,师范生在写作态度、英语语言能力及外语学科教学知识方面发生了变化,学习成长显著。文章最后指出,文本、范文演示分析和教学活动等起到了中介作用,帮助学生通过自身努力而达到学习成长。  相似文献
