Culture and language are both products of hum an society. This paper concerns the close relationship betweelanguage and culture. Some social scientists consider that language is the keystone of culture. Language is a media of communicationwhich is culturally conditioned. Culture, as a significant feature of human society and the soil for language emergence as well abackground for language use, is closely knitted together with language. However, current teaching syllabus in China does noprovide a system of the specific cultural contents to be included in any teaching program. Culture as a set of traits is by and largeneglected area and has drawn little attention. According to a famous professor Hu Wenzhongs paper, more than 90% students admithat there is a cultural gap between native English speakers and Chinese English learners and all of them think that awareness ocultural difference should be made a goal in language learning and teaching. In intercultural communication, culturamisunderstanding is often worse than linguistic one and tend to create ill feeling between native speakers and Chinese speakers oEnglish. Therefore, cultural mistakes as well as linguistic mistakes should be avoided in order to be successful in inter culturacommunication.  相似文献

The target of much language teaching and learning is to make students approximate to native speakers.The only rightful speak ers of a language are its native speakers.Contrary to these contemporary views,however,this paper argues that the obligation of the lan guage teacher is to help students to use L2 effectively not to simply imitate native speaker.A successful L2 user who comes from the group of L2 learners can be a model for students.Therefore,non-native teachers with a high degree of language proficiency and good teaching skills can be ideal and qualified language teachers.  相似文献

Aiming at solving the problems of lacking listening skills practices in English class. The paper is written for two purposes. Firstly, it intends to drive the attention of present obstacles in English listening teaching. Most children in China have their English classes at schools, however, they don’t learn too much English they just learn about English. After years of learning the problems come up: the college students who have passed CET4(College English Test) and CET6 are unable to speak or listen to native speakers. Secondly, it tries to introduce the listening skills and the methods of teaching it. Language is not a knowledge but a skill, to learn language does not mean to know as many rules and information about it, but is to practice from the first day your learn it and do practice as much as possible.  相似文献

Code-switching is a socio-linguistic term,which refers to the switching from one language to another.This paper attempts to show that code-switching can be used as a teaching strategy for second language teaching by illustrating the possible reasons for the switching.It also explores the possibility of viewing code-switching as language interferenve from a teaching perspective.In accordance with these analysis this paper makes a conclusion that when code-switching is to compensate for a language cifficulty it may be viewed as interfernce and when it is used as a socio-linguistic tool it becomes a strategy.  相似文献

The relation of language to culture is a relation of part to whole. Language is the primary means by which a culture transmits its beliefs,values and norms. There exists great difference between Western culture and Chinese culture indeed. For example,the etiquette is one of the most conspicuous differences between them. In a general sense,there is different etiquette due to the factors like geographical position,human race difference,religion. This paper demonstrates the different etiquette culture between Western countries and China from greeting,gratitude,compliments and farewell to guide oral English teaching so that students could cross the barrier on etiquette culture when they communicate with English speakers. In the English writing class, teachers have to confront numerous and diverse errors in students’writings. They must decide which types of errors require the most attention. In this research, through the investigation of a group of English teachers’ evaluation of different types of errors selected from students’writings, it was found that these teachers paid more attention to local errors than global errors, which is different from native speakers’ evaluation of error gravity. Causes for this phenomenon as well as pedagogical implications are also discussed in this paper.  相似文献

This thesis aims at investigating what the discourse patterns are in the asking-for-leave notes written by Chinese students and native English speakers respectively and what excuses are given by Chinese students and native English speakers.Role play and retrospective interview were employed as research methords.The results show that the Chinese students all use an inductive pattern,while all native English speakers write the note in a deductive way.Besides,the excuses presented by the two kinds of subjects are different due to their different cultural background.  相似文献
