This article empirically examines the market reaction to the announcement of an information technology research and development (ITR&D) strategic alliance. Strategic alliances are typically hypothesized to add value to the partnering firms since they provide similar benefits as a merger or acquisition with increased flexibility. However, unlike the extensive research into the market response to mergers and acquisitions, scant empirical evidence exists on the valuation impact of strategic alliances and the evidence that does exist is mixed. This study extends prior research by focusing solely on ITR&D alliances and by controlling for a previously documented size effect. We find a significant positive abnormal return surrounding the announcement of information technology alliances. Further analysis reveals that this result is not related to the relative size of the partner. This last result is in contrast to prior research that argues that strategic alliances result in an asymmetric gain benefiting the smaller partner more than the larger partner in the alliance.  相似文献

This paper examines firm-level performance implications of strategic alliances by employing knowledge management practices as intermediaries. Unlike previous research which focuses on partner firm factors, this study investigates how alliance characteristics (i.e., alliance scope and governance) affect interfirm knowledge sharing and creation, and how these two practices and their interaction in turn affect innovative performance. These questions are examined in a sample of 127 German partnering firms. Results show that joint ventures as opposed to contractual alliances are more effective and influential in facilitating knowledge sharing and creation. In contrast, the scope of alliance activities, while positively associated with knowledge sharing, has no direct relationship with knowledge creation. In addition to these results, the study also finds that knowledge sharing, knowledge creation and their interaction significantly contribute to partner firms’ innovative performance.  相似文献

This study examined how participation in open innovation communities influences the innovative and financial performance of firms commercializing open source software. Using an original dataset of open source companies in the Netherlands, I found that the community participation–performance relationship is curvilinear. In addition, results indicate that extensive technical participation in open source projects is more strongly related to performance for firms that also engage in social (“offline”) community activities, for companies of larger size, and for firms with high R&D intensities. Overall, this research refines our understanding of the boundary conditions under which engagement in community-based innovation yields private returns to commercial actors.  相似文献

本研究基于交易成本理论分析了在研发联盟组合中,研发合作伙伴的社会价值(中心企业的研发合作伙伴的伙伴数的平均值来衡量)如何作用于企业的突破性创新;同时分析了研发联盟伙伴技术多样性以及地理多样性的调节作用。基于1997年至2017年中国医药制造业构建研发联盟的数据,采用负二项回归分析发现:(1)在研发联盟组合中,研发联盟伙伴社会价值与企业突破性创新的关系为倒U形;(2)研发联盟伙伴技术多样性减弱了伙伴社会价值对企业突破性创新的倒U作用;(3)研发联盟伙伴地理多样性增强了伙伴社会价值对企业突破性创新的倒U作用。本文的研究结论不仅完善了现有的研发联盟组合文献和伙伴多样性研究文献,还基于交易成本理论为企业管理者进行伙伴选择及联盟组合管理提供重要的思路启发。  相似文献

Since Teece's seminal paper explaining who were the gainers from technological innovation, increased globalization and the information and communication technology revolution have brought new ways for firms to organize and appropriate from innovation. A new more open model of innovation suggests that firms can benefit from sources of innovation that stem from outside the firm. The central theme of this paper is how firms try to unlock communities as complementary assets. These communities exist outside firm boundaries beyond ownership or hierarchical control. Because of practices developed by communities to protect their work, firms need to assign individuals to work in these communities in order to gain access to developments and, to an extent, influence the direction of the community. Using network analysis we show that some software firms sponsor individuals to act strategically within a free and open source software (FOSS) community. Firm sponsored individuals interact with more individuals than interact with them, and also they seek to interact with central individuals in the community. However, we can see differences in how individuals interact, depending on whether their affiliation is with a dedicated FOSS firm or an incumbent in the software industry. Apparently, some firm managers believe they need ‘a man on the inside’ to be able to gain access to communities.  相似文献

Many young biotechnology firms act as intermediaries in tripartite alliance chains. They enter upstream partnerships with public sector research institutions, and later form commercialization alliances with established, downstream firms. We examine the alliance activity in a large sample of biotechnology firms and find: (i) firms with multiple in-licensing agreements are more likely to attract revenue-generating alliances with downstream partners; however, (ii) the positive relationship between in-licenses and downstream alliances attenuates as firms mature, and (iii) the diversity and the quality of the academic connections of firms’ principals influences their chances of successfully acquiring commercialization rights to scientific discoveries in universities.  相似文献

This paper deals with the relationships between firms and communities in open source software (OSS). A particular feature of OSS is that important resources are not directly controlled by firms, but partly reside within communities that co-exist with the firms. Despite this, firms explicitly try to utilize the resources within these communities in order to create and appropriate value. Consequently, the relationships that firms have to these communities influence their way of doing business. Based on case studies of Nordic OSS firms, a typology consisting of symbiotic, commensalistic, and parasitic approaches to handle the firm-community relationship is developed. Depending on the chosen approach, firms encounter different managerial issues and also use different operational means of subtle control. While firms relying on a symbiotic approach have greater possibility to influence the community through subtle means of control, they are also confronted with more challenging managerial issues.  相似文献

   推动产业联盟转型升级是我国新型举国体制下创新驱动高质量发展的战略关键点。为此,从创新生态系统结构化视角出发,分析产业联盟创新生态系统的内涵、结构以及升级本质,结合主要升级压力提出产业联盟创新生态系统升级路径概念模型,并选择农业装备产业联盟、闪联产业联盟和TD产业联盟进行多案例研究,探究不同升级情境下产业联盟创新生态系统升级路径的基本类型及差异性。研究发现:(1)产业联盟创新生态系统可视为横向“技术-产品-市场”层级结构与纵向“创新协作网络-价值采用网络”共同构成的纵横网络结构,其结构化升级本质为创新协作网络与价值采用网络间的协调升级;(2)基于产业联盟创新生态系统升级过程特征,凝练新价值主张引领升级路径、核心创新平台辐射升级路径、多样性关系嵌入升级路径三条基本升级路径;(3)面临的升级压力、升级起点和升级关键控制点共同决定了产业联盟创新生态系统升级路径间的差异性。本研究旨在拓展创新生态系统、产业联盟等相关理论研究,并为我国产业联盟持续创新发展提供理论支持和决策参考。  相似文献

本文通过对重庆、深圳、西安等地建立了非对称竞争性战略联盟的近500名企业中高层管理人员的问卷调查,利用结构方程模型,从实证的角度,研究了非对称竞争性战略联盟中资源依赖性、关系风险和联盟绩效的相互影响。研究结果表明,非对称竞争性战略联盟中,资源的依赖性对联盟关系风险具有显著的正相关影响,关系风险对联盟绩效具有显著的负相关影响,而资源依赖性对联盟绩效只具有部分的负相关影响。表明在非对称型与对称型竞争性战略联盟中,资源依赖性、关系风险和联盟绩效三者之间的关系存在很大的差异,处于联盟中的企业应注意这种差别所带来的影响。  相似文献

技术战略联盟是合作伙伴资源共享、提高技术创新效率和共同创造价值的组织,但其创新活动往往伴随着各类风险,在实践中很多联盟的运行没有达到预期效果。如何降低联盟的运行风险,优化合作路径既是理论的前沿问题,也是实践亟待解决的难题。本文研究了技术战略联盟运行风险、协同合作与联盟稳定的关系,通过实证研究,结果表明:第一,技术战略联盟运行过程中利益冲突风险和分歧冲突风险会降低联盟的稳定性,而联盟依赖风险初期会提高联盟绩效,但随着依赖程度的逐渐加深,参与各方的自主开拓创新能力有可能受损,从而降低联盟绩效;第二,联盟内部的自主合作可以正向调节技术战略联盟运行中利益冲突风险、分歧冲突风险与联盟绩效的关系,并且削弱联盟依赖风险对联盟绩效的倒U型效应,从而起到协同优化的作用。政府扶持对技术战略联盟运行风险与联盟稳定关系的调节作用并不明显。  相似文献

本文探讨了战略联盟中的企业绩效问题.通过引入知识获取这一中介变量,把信任和冲突与企业绩效联系起来,并使用结构方程模型对它们之间的关系进行了检验.本文使用的数据来自127个德国联盟企业.研究结果表明,信任将通过知识获取的中介作用对企业绩效产生正向影响.而冲突对知识获取的影响作用并不显著,说明冲突可以不经过知识获取的中介作用直接降低企业的绩效.此外,企业的知识获取与其绩效呈现正向的相关关系,表明企业需要重视知识管理活动以增强竞争力.  相似文献

摘要:企业联盟关系风险的研究始于上个世纪九十年代,Das & Teng两位学者创造性地把联盟风险概括归纳为关系风险和绩效风险,其中关系风险特指联盟伙伴可能的可能机会主义行为或是对联盟缺乏忠诚而造成的潜在损失。本文在国内外学者研究的基础上,细化分析联盟关系风险的生成机制,演绎出联盟不同阶段关系风险的差异。同时,在此分析框架的基础上,具体分析了“达娃联盟”的关系风险,由此给出了联盟关系风险的一些启示。  相似文献

Strategic alliances are important channels for interfirm learning, especially for small firms that are resource constrained. Of the several alliance attributes, technological distance between partners (measured as the distance between partners’ innovative outcomes) is shown to have a significant influence on the learning benefits from strategic alliances. Drawing upon the theory of recombination, our study argues that the influence of technological distance on learning is best understood by not only measuring the distance between innovative outcomes, but by also taking into consideration the knowledge elements underlying the innovative outcomes. We develop a concept of knowledge base homogeneity that captures the extent to which the innovative outcomes of partnering firms draw upon similar sets of knowledge elements. Using patent and alliance data from 201 small biotechnology firms during the period 1996–2010, we confirm that the technological distance has an inverted u-shaped relationship on interfirm learning. We further demonstrate that this u-shaped relationship is moderated by the knowledge base homogeneity between partners, such that benefits of technological distance are enhanced and the costs of technological distance are mitigated when the knowledge base homogeneity between alliance partners is high. The results have important implications for interfirm learning, especially in the context of small firms that are limited in their knowledge stocks.  相似文献

Online open source software platforms, such as Sourceforge.net, play a vital role in creating an ecosystem that enables the creation and growth of open source projects. However, there is little research exploring the interactions between open source stakeholders and the platform. We believe that the sustainability of the platform crucially depends on financial incentives. While platforms can obtain these incentives through multiple means, in this paper we focus on one form of financial incentives—voluntary monetary donations by open source community members. We report findings from two empirical studies that examine factors that impact donations. Study 1 investigates the factors that cause some community members to donate and not others. We find that the decision to donate is impacted by relational commitment with open source software platform, donation to projects and accepting donations from others. Study 2 examines what drives the level of donation. We find that the length of association with the platform and relational commitment affects donation levels.  相似文献

Alliances with established organizations provide young firms with resources necessary for survival. We build on recent organizational research examining the effect of upper echelons on attracting powerful intermediaries to understand how young biotechnology firms establish alliances with established organizations. Drawing upon the concept of homophily, we test hypotheses regarding the extent to which young firms and partners match along specific homophily dimensions. Our findings from an event-history analysis of 3,200 career histories of managers who took biotechnology firms public between 1979 and 1996 show that alliance formation is related to status homophily and role-based homophily between young and established organizations.  相似文献

资源的匮乏常常是技术创业企业发展中面临的主要困难。而战略联盟为技术创业企业提供了一种以资源互补、风险共担、利益共享为基础的合作和发展模式,成为技术创业企业把握创业机会、实现快速发展的有效途径之一。本文首先针对技术创业企业与大企业构建的战略联盟,从资源基础观和"战略-结构"的视角,建立了技术创业企业构建战略联盟的"动因-行为-收益"整体分析框架;进而对高技术创业企业海兰信公司进行了深入案例研究,分析了其通过构建战略联盟获取资源、实现成长的内在机制。研究发现,技术创业企业选择联盟战略后,可以通过与伙伴企业进行组织间的合作、沟通和学习,使资源得到互补,战略更加明晰,组织结构更加完善,从而实现创业企业成长和绩效提升。在此基础上,本文提出了技术创业企业构建联盟的"动因-行为-收益"模型。  相似文献
