[目的/意义] 针对以Alma为代表的下一代图书馆服务平台,了解和分析其对电子资源的全流程管理功能,引导图书馆更好地使用下一代图书馆服务平台,提高电子资源的管理质量。[方法/过程] 首先探讨图书馆使用图书馆服务平台管理电子资源的必要性,总结电子资源管理的全生命周期,归纳下一代图书馆服务平台的发展历程和特点,并以Alma为例详细分析下一代图书馆服务平台管理电子资源的全流程功能。[结果/结论] 以Alma为代表的下一代图书馆服务平台对于管理电子资源具有较强的优势,但也存在一些实际操作难点。国内图书馆在实际应用时需结合系统流程制定符合本馆需求的电子资源管理工作流程,同时建立由国内图书馆联盟、图书馆、出版商三方参与的共享合作机制,并敦促系统厂商满足国内图书馆本地化的相关使用需求,才能更好地实现电子资源的全流程管理。 相似文献

Summary The current academic library has recently experienced dramatic change. The electronic library of tomorrow is the present reality of today. Library employees and patrons now not only deal with print materials but also with resources in many additional formats including electronic. Concerns have emerged with the proliferation of these resources. Some of these concerns include the possible infatuation of library users with electronic resources over their print counterparts, the explosion of information resources, and providing reference services in an electronic society. Questions investigated in this article include the impact of this growth in electronic resources on traditional reference services and the effects of how library customers are served by librarians. SUMMARY The management of electronic resources is one of the most challenging issues facing academic libraries today. Integrated library systems are often unable to manage these resources using existing architecture, but many vendors and individuals are developing systems as either stand-alone or components of their integrated library systems. ABSTRACT The working group developed its map through a web-based survey distributed internationally via listservs. Eighty-nine preponderantly North American cooperative projects responded. Almost three-quarters of them were born in the 1990s. State-based projects are prevalent, and most projects operate in compact regions. Academic libraries appear to participate much more frequently than other types. Not surprisingly, 75 percent of the projects feature the shared purchase or archiving of electronic resources. One-third engage in selection or management of print materials, most often in area studies. Collaborative electronic purchasing has generated a boom in cooperative collection development, but traditional print-based cooperation remains rare and narrowly focused. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Public libraries are an important resource for emergent literacy development. Emergent literacy is the behavior a child exhibits relative to books and reading before the child is able to decode words. A distinctive feature to public libraries is the free and equal access they offer to the public and specifically caregivers of very small children. Libraries house large quantities of print and electronic resources that give children the opportunity to have meaningful literacy experiences that are necessary for reading development. These experiences have a significant impact on emergent literacy development. While literature demonstrates the importance of public libraries for small children, caregivers may not know about the impact of print-rich environments on emergent literacy skills. These interviews with caregivers reveal that most of them attend public library-emergent literacy programming for many other reasons than developing emergent literacy skills and exposure to a print-rich environment. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Electronic reserves offers many advantages over traditional print reserves in terms of service efficiency but it can also provide considerable cost and time savings to the library if these savings are measured over an entire semester or year. If the library looks beyond traditional means of evaluating success, e-reserves contributes to a sense of community on campus by helping to create more satisfying relationships between staff, students, and faculty. An effective electronic reserves system also enables the campus to take advantage of emerging technology for educational uses, and encourages continued development of innovative and imaginative teaching on campus. 相似文献

Battling swelling expenses, blustering winds of reduced resources, and tumultuous tempests of electronic resources clashing with print resources, we steer toward an increasingly digital skyline with steadily leaner crews, needing support and new skills to sail these seas of continuous change and challenge. Now more than ever it is necessary to build a team empowered to maneuver efficiently and effectively. Leading and managing are central to positioning for and embracing these emerging horizons. The presenters have been studying and implementing various aspects of “servant leadership” with an eye toward growing people within our departments and communicating in multiple directions. ABSTRACTThis study used a quantitative survey to investigate the knowledge and use of online databases and the library's online public access catalog by final-year business associate degree students in five selected Jamaican community colleges. The study sought to determine students’ knowledge of electronic library resources, their value for electronic and print resources, the purposes for which students use electronic library resources, the influences on student use of electronic library resources, and the effects of training and instruction. Results from the study indicated that students are increasingly using Internet search engines for research purposes rather than online databases. Results also indicated that electronic library resources such as the OPAC are being underutilized by community college students. It was evident that proper instructional guidance is needed and welcomed by students. The findings of the study are critical to the implementation of policies and procedures geared toward sensitizing school administrators, library professionals, and other stakeholders to the benefits of increasing students’ knowledge and use of electronic library resources. Data will aid administrators in strategic planning and investments pertaining to these resources, and provide recommendations to improve knowledge and use of these resources within libraries. The research illustrates the special needs of community college students in Jamaica, particularly relating to needed instructional programs, in an effort to impart knowledge and promote the use of electronic library resources in these colleges. 相似文献

Summary The contemporary academic library increasingly provides one or more public access computer labs. Students use these labs for word processing, Internet browsing, creating spreadsheets, and other related applications. Providing these types of computer labs in academic libraries is a relatively new development and requires effective management techniques. The purpose of this article is to examine some of the current management concepts, including background, funding, design and implementation, staffing, equipment, software, security and control, and patron relations. Effective management relies on a combination of physical and internal measures as well as a knowledgeable support staff. With the advancement of the Internet and other emerging technologies, the library must strive to maintain its position as a leader in the university environment. Electronic resource management (ERM) workflows in academic libraries are characterized by their complex and constantly shifting nature. This article describes four phases of effective workflow management including careful planning, development of workflow strategies, staffing and identification of resources, and integration of ERM and communication tools. The importance of supporting effective communication strategies is emphasized throughout the article. Summary Reference publishing is in an era of competing technologies: print and electronic. For large multivolume reference books, the transition from being primarily a print resource to being primarily electronic is well advanced, perhaps nearly complete. For many smaller reference books, such as dictionaries, thesauruses, and almanacs, the transition is less advanced; in fact, it seems likely that print and electronic editions of such works may coexist for years to come. There are good reasons for this to happen, but this situation also poses challenges to librarians, publishers, and patrons. ABSTRACT Based on his experience, the author summarizes what reference/collection development librarians and library users want and expect from aggregator databases, and what's needed from database vendors and from librarians to meet these expectations. Particularly important are content quality, reliability, modularity, and affordability, interface simplicity and flexibility, and reliable congruence between and integration of print and electronic editions. From vendors, librarians should demand more and better content guarantees, purchase options, communication of content details and changes, full-text searching, and persistent URLs for individual titles. Librarians should provide analyzed cataloging and holdings for all titles in aggregator databases, keep these records current, fully integrate them with records for print and other electronic editions, and incorporate them into web catalogs, in addition to providing other web access tools such as browsable title lists. 相似文献

Abstract The licensing of electronic resources has become a significant activity for all parties involved in the production, purchase, and delivery of these resources. During the early development of the licensing process, the industry as a whole had little experience with licensing as an integral part of the acquisition process. Licensing practice developed in a reactive state and the emerging process lacked standards and models. Since licensing was consuming greater resources and was becoming a distraction from the business of supplying resources to users, standards and model licenses were developed and used to bring some semblance of order to the process. Model licenses have not solved all problems associated with the licensing process, but they prevented the collapse of the process as licensing continues to see explosive growth. 相似文献
