Scientific publishing in mathematics and physics (as in other exact sciences) is rapidly changing, and it is important to identify and predict relevant changes and their potential consequences. To understand such changes, the authors begin with a brief history of scientific publishing and the rise of digital publishing. The study presents a qualitative comparison of the basic features of traditional and digital forms of publications (books, journals, libraries and databases, archives, webinars, forums, digital learning materials), on the basis of which relevant changes (specific for mathematics and physics) are identified and predicted. Several tables describing the most popular and useful scientific online tools for scientists, professors, students, and engineers are listed. 相似文献

An empirical law for the rank-order behavior of journal impact factors is found. Using an extensive data base on impact factors including journals on education, agrosciences, geosciences, mathematics, chemistry, medicine, engineering, physics, biosciences and environmental, computer and material sciences, we have found extremely good fittings outperforming other rank-order models. Based in our results, we propose a two-exponent Lotkaian Informetrics. Some extensions to other areas of knowledge are discussed. 相似文献

学术期刊开放同行评议(open peer review, OPR)内涵丰富,审稿流程多变。为了探讨OPR的开放层次,提出了OPR多层次模块化分解与组合思路,以期为学术期刊探索适合自身的OPR制度提供理论依据。运用模块化方法将OPR全流程的开放环节解构为3层,再进行组合;最后采用案例分析法对出版商和学术期刊实施的多种OPR制度进行分析。经模块化解构,先得到要素层的OPR功能模块;其次得到单刊实施层的7个开放子模块:众包审稿、开放指定审者权限、审者身份公开、原稿预出版、评议报告公开、开放互动和出版后期刊评议;再自单刊实施扩展至产业链实施层,得到刊群/多主体实施层的3个开放子模块:审稿外包、期刊间的评议报告转移和出版后外部评论;进而组合成OPR多层次模块化开放体系。多案例分析结果表明,各种OPR均可视为上述开放子模块的单一或不同组合形式。所提出的学术期刊OPR多层次模块化思想扩展了OPR概念外延,为显性理解OPR多变流程开辟了新途径,为OPR分类阐明了新思路,为学术期刊选择OPR制度并定制审稿流程提供了有益建议。 相似文献

There is significant evidence that traditional university presses are continuing to face financial crises. Outlets for research monographs are drying up, print runs are being reduced and monograph costs are increasing. The combination of the digital networked environment and openarchive initiatives may, however, provide the opportunity, through institutional repositories, to rethink the role and nature of the distribution of research monographs in a university setting. The adoption of new models, untrammelled by the structures of the past, while still retaining editorial and refereeing standards, could revolutionize the access and distribution patterns of research knowledge within university frameworks. Ultimate success will depend, however, on programmes of scholarly advocacy in scholarly communication with the academic author as both creator and as consumer. 相似文献

The recent literature about peer review of scholarly articles is reviewed, with particular emphasis on the cost of the peer-review process. Possible impacts of electronic scholarly publishing upon peer reviewing are discussed. Opinion among academics in their roles as authors, editors and referees seems likely to insist upon preservation of a pre-publication refereeing system in most disciplines. As the administration of any such system seems to have a cost of about $400 per published article, any scholarly publishing system will need to locate financial support to at least that extent, and a system of lump-sum payment by the authors' funders is best placed to cover this cost while providing universal free access to scholarly material. 相似文献

Summary I describe a set of automated archives for electronic communication of research information that have been operational in many fields of physics, and some related and unrelated disciplines, starting from 1991. These archives now serve over 35,000 users worldwide from over 70 countries, and process more than 70,000 electronic transactions per day. In some fields of physics, they have already supplanted traditional research journals as conveyers of both topical and archival research information. Many of the lessons learned from these systems should carry over to other fields of scholarly publication, i.e., those wherein authors are writing not for direct financial remuneration in the form of royalties, but rather primarily to communicate information (for the advancement of knowledge, with attendant benefits to their careers and professional reputations). These archives have in addition proven equally indispensable to researchers in less-developed countries. 相似文献

[目的/意义] 研究基于开放式引文数据库提出的新型期刊评价指标Jfactor以及其与传统文献计量学指标的关系,分析Jfactor的特点,并对我国期刊评价提出启示。[方法/过程] 结合统计学方法,利用SPSS软件对高能物理领域期刊的指标数据进行相关性分析,主要包括Jfactor与impact factor、5-year impact factor、eigenfactor score,同时将指标之间作比较研究。[结果/结论] 相关分析结果表明,Jfactor与impact factor相关性最强,其次是5-year impact factor,与eigenfactor score的相关性相对最弱。相对于impact factor,Jfactor的计算数据更加透明,而且充分考虑了开放数据对论文引用的影响,对我国期刊评价具有重要的研究价值。 相似文献

A growing number of online journals and academic platforms are adopting light peer review or ‘publish then filter’ models of scholarly communication. These approaches have the advantage of enabling instant exchanges of knowledge between academics and are part of a wider search for alternatives to traditional peer review and certification processes in scholarly publishing. However, establishing credibility and identifying the correct balance between communication and scholarly rigour remains an important challenge for digital communication platforms targeting academic communities. This paper looks at a highly influential, government‐backed, open publishing platform in China: Science Paper Online, which is using transparent post‐publication peer‐review processes to encourage innovation and address systemic problems in China's traditional academic publishing system. There can be little doubt that the Chinese academic publishing landscape differs in important ways from counterparts in the United States and Western Europe. However, this article suggests that developments in China also provide important lessons about the potential of digital technology and government policy to facilitate a large‐scale shift towards more open and networked models of scholarly communication. 相似文献
