造纸术是中国古代四大发明之一,其推动了整个世界文明的进步。随着环保和节能省电意识的增强,电子纸相关产品相继问世1-3。电子纸的发明可谓既满足了人们节能的要求,又坚持了可持续发展战略。电子纸的发明也经历了一段较长时间的历程,早在1975年,美国施乐(Xerox)公司就率先提出了电子墨(electronic ink或E-ink)的概念,电子纸诞生了,实现了纸与电子的结合;1997年4月,E-Ink公司用“电子墨”与初期的电子纸进一步融合,极大地促进了电子纸技术的进一步发展。2001年5月,E-Ink公司制造出了有色电子纸样品,为有色电子纸的不断发展提供了广阔的空间。之后,彩色电子纸被人们广泛应用到各行各业,受到人们的青睐。    相似文献

如今人们对电子纸这个概念已经不再陌生,但似乎总处于只闻不见的状态。其实电子纸的历史可以追溯到二十多年前,可由于种种原因,电子纸直到20世纪90年代中期才有了进一步的研究。正所谓时事造英雄,研究电子纸的一位名叫Joseph Jacobson的物理研究员靠几百万美元的风险资金成立了电子油墨公司(E lnk Inc),如今E lnk公司已经成为这一技术的领头羊。除此之外,施乐Gyricon公司、飞利浦公司、佳能公司、日本凸版印刷公司等也都在这一领域取得了成果。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Library patrons are adopting mobile devices for personal and other uses. The ubiquity of mobile devices will lead to changes in how and where learning and education happens. Libraries have wanted to become ubiquitous by making resources and services available anywhere, anytime. Reference librarians can use mobile devices and applications to include services in mobile learning environments. Challenges to libraries include uncertainty about which technologies to adopt in a rapidly changing technology landscape, the cost of technology adoption, staffing for 24–7, diversity of needs and preferences among library patrons, and the need to offer stable, consistent services. The combination of mobile librarians, mobile patrons, and mobile content provides an opportunity to move closer to the ideal of the ubiquitous library.

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) uses extensive markup language (XML) to constantly scan the content of Web sites for updates, which will then be delivered to subscribers' desktops or mobile devices through an RSS feed. Although wellness is usually viewed in opposition to technology, more digital devices and mobile applications are emerging to support wellness for health consumers. Librarians worked with faculty in the School of Medicine to integrate iPad tablets into the third-year pediatric clerkship. The use of the technology allowed students instant access to information in the clinical setting and simplified the management of the course. In addition, a variety of tablet and e-reader devices were purchased for patron check-out. Library management of the devices is discussed. With the proliferation of technology usage, it is essential to understand the effect of implementation of technology in the academic setting. Specifically, this article examines the impact of eBooks and mobile devices on student learning. A pilot study was conducted with three areas of interest. The first question of interest found that owning or having access to two or more mobile devices significantly increased respondents' frequency of accessing eBooks. The second question examined the pros and cons of using mobile devices. Accessibility and cost savings were found as pros; while functionality and pedagogy were reported as drawbacks to mobile device usage. Furthermore, usability responses varied. The third question examined the effect of mobile device use on student learning. Findings show that eBooks and mobile device use in the classroom have a significant impact on the student's educational experience.  相似文献

This study aims to explore the use of mobile technology among students of University of Ljubljana (UL), Slovenia, in order to improve academic library services. We focused on the use of mobile library services of academic libraries in general and students' reading of full text resources on mobile devices in particular. A questionnaire was administered online to collect data from students within all faculties of University of Ljubljana. Assuming that the attitude towards using mobile devices to read scholarly e-resources is also affected by students' perception of mobile devices, we researched this in the context of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). UL students perceive mobile devices as generally useful for reading scholarly e-resources, but with shortcomings. They perceive mobile devices as practical for easy access to e-resources while they do not see them as appropriate for reading. Given the low mobile use of library online resources, UL libraries should develop a plan for the development of attractive mobile services and their effective promotion.  相似文献

As technology rapidly changes, libraries remain go-to points for education and technology skill development. In academic health sciences libraries, trends suggest librarians provide more training on technology topics than ever before. While education and training have always been roles for librarians, providing technology training on new mobile devices and emerging systems requires class creation and training capabilities that are new to many librarians. To appeal to their users, many health sciences librarians are interested in developing technology-based classes.
