文章试从整个图书馆职业的视角,分析了美国图书馆职业对图书馆学教育质量和发展方向实施控制的机制,重点分析了其中的资质鉴定制度及其存在的问题。论文指出,美国ALA的专业资质鉴定制度与职业资格准入制度及其他面向整个职业团体的交流平台遥相呼应成为图书馆学教育质量的监控体系,这一体系促使图书馆学教育不断改进和提高,不断顺应社会环境和整个图书馆职业的需求。尽管ALA的专业资质鉴定制度目前存在着一些问题、面临来自各方的挑战,但总的来说,这种质量监控程序不会消失,以类似制度指导、监控图书馆学教育应是历史发展的必然。  相似文献

A report is given on Canadian hospital library standards as recently developed and incorporated in a new Guide to Hospital Accreditation, 1977. The new Canadian standards are compared with MLA recommendations to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. Their development is sketched and the contribution from Quebec of a model of hospital classification is examined. This model provides differential minimal library standards based on the function of the hospital rather than on its size alone. Use of these minimal standards as a practical means of developing hospital libraries is discussed and their implications for accreditation visits are underlined.  相似文献

Citizens' use of the public library in their local community is explored, focusing on social activities and how the libraries function as meeting places. The findings are important because of the need for meeting places across cultural, ethnic, generational, and social lines in a complex multicultural and digitized society. How library visitors use the library space and services, so that the overall societal goals of the library and the local community are obtained, is still rarely examined. An in-depth observational study was conducted in three library branches of Oslo, combined with interviews with patrons to establish the context and purpose of their library activities and to which life spheres they are linked. The research used concepts from social theory. The overall finding is that the public library use is very diverse. Patrons move easily between high and low intensive activities and float between life spheres and roles—student, family member, friend, neighbor, and citizen. The library is a complex arena. It is a public realm, in the sense that most of the visitors are strangers to each other; most of the individual uses belong to a private realm, and the library's community activities constitute it as a parochial realm. In the library, users are exposed to the plurality of the community and learn about otherness. People are not categorized by profession or as being unemployed, a patient or a client, but are all library users. This quality of the library contributes to social inclusion.  相似文献

While females are still underrepresented as directors overall, the results of our survey indicate that in the past ten years female library directors have been hired in numbers nearly matching their overall percentage of the medical library profession. When the personal characteristics of medical library directors are compared by gender, male directors are more likely to be married, have children, and be somewhat younger upon attaining their first directorship. When the professional characteristics are compared, the only notable difference is that a greater portion of males hold a second master's degree. Despite the changing numbers of female library directors in the past ten years, these differences all held constant before and after 1977. Only the number of internal successions to directorship changed over time. The succession patterns of medical library directors now match more closely those of other academic library directors.  相似文献

This study gauges instruction and information literacy coordinators' awareness of higher education accreditation processes at their institutions and provides a picture of how coordinators use assessment documentation produced by units external to the library. The study took the form of a survey sent to a random sample of instruction coordinators and information literacy librarians stratified by regional accrediting body. Results showed that instruction coordinators generally are aware of accreditation processes but that only about half use documentation relating to student learning assessment, which may include written student learning outcomes at the institution, program, or course level, plans for assessing learning outcomes, and reports on assessment activities and results, to further their information literacy goals. Accreditation awareness is influenced by time in position, time in the profession, and, to some extent, regional accreditor. Use of and considered importance of assessment documentation is influenced by size of institution, regional accreditor, and, to some extent, time in position. Suggestions for increasing awareness and use of documentation include introducing the accreditation process to new librarians in library school, encouraging contribution of experiences with assessment documentation to the literature and regional conferences, and advocating for instruction coordinators to serve on campus assessment committees.  相似文献

基于文献调查法与内容分析法,归纳并解析美国图书馆学与信息科学教育认可制度的发展历程及其在认可标准制定原则、适用学科领域、认可对象、基本条款等方面的变革,发现认可标准制定原则由重“量”变为重“质”,适用学科领域由图书馆学扩展到图书馆学与信息科学,认可对象由早期的各类型图书馆学院发展到具有图书馆与信息科学研究生授予权的院系,认可标准的基本条款在任务及目标、课程、教师、学生、行政管理与经费支持、硬件资源和设备等方面也有许多变化。这些变革给我国图书馆学与信息科学教育的启示是:应该注重和发展研究生教育,构建一体化学科,提高教育质量,制定教育认可标准。  相似文献
