This paper reflects on a teaching experiment and presents details of a pedagogical technique where students periodically write down their clearest interpretation of the conditions imposed on various discrete mathematical subjects they are learning in class. Through iterations, students generate a more complete understanding of the material, one that they themselves can justify. This experiment was conducted in the Discrete Mathematical Structures course; as it contains several subtopics, each of which uses a discrete set of elements with specific conditions. The textbook does not mention how those conditions are effectively put to use, and often uses the natural numbers as the default domain. Students are required to identify in their journals the exact properties that the elements need to have, justify how they are being put to use, and in ambitious cases attempt to sharpen them if possible. This activity can be adapted to different contexts and is not specific to the topic of Discrete Mathematical Structures.  相似文献

The previously developed Mason-Coates graph (MC-graph), used for continuous-time networks, is summarized to simplify our presentation. True bond graphs, which use effort and flow variables whose product is power, can in principle be used to describe all types of physical systems. However, many system models do not use power variables and yet can be represented usefully as pseudo bond graphs. Pseudo bond graphs have been used particularly for open systems in which it is convenient to consider control volumes or compartments with boundaries across which mass can flow. In this paper, we show how the bond graph methods used for conductive and convective heat transfer can be generalized to account for diffusion, convection, and accumulation of a variety of physical quantities and how pseudo bond graphs can aid in constructing and representing such models. These models are known in mathematical biology as “compartmental models” and it is a main contribution of this paper to show that the same pseudo bond graphs apply to thermofluid and physiological dynamic models. The bond graphs build in some conservation principles automatically and yet have the flexibility to incorporate general multiport laws when necessary. Thus the pseudo bond graphs can exhibit system structure as do other network graphs and are very general in nature.  相似文献

The educational policy in Morocco is aimed at promoting the wide use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education and the adoption of interactive and autonomous digital resources for distance teaching and self-learning. The objective of this research is to evaluate the suitability of the existing digital educational resources for distance learning purposes by analysing their interactivity and autonomy. The study of the contents of 190 existing products for teaching and learning Life and Earth Sciences in high schools has revealed the existence of weaknesses related to interactivity and autonomy. The results have been used to set down guidelines for designers of future interactive and autonomous digital educational resources for distance learning use.  相似文献

Lebanese educators claim that middle and secondary school students exhibit poor understanding of genetics due to misconceptions and difficulties that hinder progression in conceptual understanding of major genetics concepts and phenomena across different grade levels. They attributed these problems to Lebanon’s ill-structured genetics curriculum which needs a thorough revision in light of curricular reform models that take into account student misconceptions, cognitive abilities, and past experiences. Despite these claims, no empirical tests were done. Consequently, this study aimed to investigate G7-12 Lebanese students’ misconceptions and difficulties in genetics in an attempt to design a curriculum that would enhance student understanding of genetics. Using quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, we obtained an in-depth understanding of the nature of the misconceptions and difficulties encountered by students in grades 7–12, determined the level of students’ genetics literacy, and explored the progression of their level of conceptual understanding of major genetics concepts across grade levels. A questionnaire was administered to 729 students (G7-12) in 6 schools and was followed by semi-structured interviews with 62 students to validate the questionnaire results, gain further understanding of students’ misconceptions, and assess their level of genetics literacy. Findings showed that patterns of inheritance, the deterministic nature of genes, and the nature of genetic information were found to be among the most difficult concepts learned. Students also showed inadequate understanding of many basic genetics concepts which persist across grade levels. Furthermore, results indicated that students across all grade levels exhibited a low level of genetics literacy. Implications for practice and research are discussed.  相似文献

Drawing on interviews with Muslim parents, students, and teachers in a Midwestern city, as well as one of the author's (Sabry's) own experiences as a member in the local Muslim community, this paper documents and describes the challenges faced by Muslim youth in U.S. schools. Grounded in the theoretical framework of cultural mismatch, the paper presents key themes of the interviews with regards to the areas of curriculum, instruction, and home-school relations. Based on these findings, and using Banks' Multicultural Education Dimensions, a proactive model of cooperation between the families of Muslim students and the public school system is proposed. The paper concludes by urging other scholars to investigate the schooling of Muslim students in the U.S. and encouraging members of the Muslim community to share their U.S. schooling experiences.  相似文献

Implement VLANs essentially creating smaller broadcast domains at layer 2, means that broadcasts sent out from a node in one VLAN won t be forwarded to ports configured to belong to a different VLAN. In this paper, we assigning users to VLAN groups on a switch, this help to gain the flexibility to add only the users you want into that broadcast domain regardless of their physical location. This setup can also work to block broadcast storms caused by a faulty network interface card (NIC) as well as prevent an intermediate device from propagating broadcast storms throughout the entire internetwork.  相似文献
