Supervision has been shown to have a high impact on doctoral students' development. However, little is known about how students perceive not only negative but also positive doctoral experiences, as well as their strategies for dealing with perceived problematic situations. The aim of this study is to analyse and relate doctoral students' significant supervision experiences to the strategies they use to cope with these experiences when they perceive them as challenging or negative. A total of 1173 doctoral students from different research-intensive Spanish universities responded to four open-ended questions about their most significant experiences in their doctoral journey, associated feelings and strategies to deal with them. We identified a total of 223 experiences related to supervision that were distributed into five categories: 1) central prerequisites for supervision, 2) supervisor choice, 3) supervision of the research process, 4) coaching and 5) project management. The results showed three distinct ways, as reported by the students, of handling the perceived negative supervision experiences: 1) no strategy, 2) local strategy and 3) regulatory strategy. The results suggest that analysing both positive and negative experiences may better capture variability in students' supervision experiences. A relation between experiences with supervision and students' satisfaction was also detected. 相似文献

The symbolism in Hawthorne's short stories is very typical. This paper mainly discusses the use of symbolism in his Young Goodman Brown with a view to contributing to a better understanding of the whole story. Its title, the protagonist's name, color of brown, pink, and black, some images such as characters, surroundings and the plot of the whole story have abundant symbolic implication. By analyzing the story and the writing methods of symbolism, we can see the theme of Hawthorne's stories clearly. Hawthorne reveals that"Evil is the nature of mankind"by the use of these images. 相似文献

Birmingham City University's Library and Learning Resources’ strategic aim is to improve student satisfaction. A key element is the achievement of the Customer Excellence Standard. An important component of the standard is the mapping of services to improve quality. Library and Learning Resources has developed a methodology to map these “customer journeys” with students. The article considers themes in the published literature and provides an overview of a pilot project and its outcomes. The project's aims are evaluated including an assessment of the effectiveness of the mapping methodology in engaging students, the staff resource implications, and the identification of service improvements. 相似文献

Thinking Journey is introduced as a mode of science instruction based on a specially designed discussion between students
and teachers in the context of an imaginary journey. The paper elaborates the rationale of this mode and its specific features:
enculturation into science, analytical observation, multiple perspectives of the subject and environment, hypothetical thinking,
and active interaction between the teacher and students. The role of the teacher is argued to be mediation of knowledge. The
method was applied for teaching the concept of gravitation and its relationship with up-down direction. Positive results of
