micromethod and (b) Conjunctival impression cytology (CIC). The results were compared with 25 normal children. Vitamin A status
was lower in children with persistent diarrhoea whereas the results were comparable between the children with acute diarrhoea

Serum vitamin E and cholesterol concentrations were measured in 50 children with protein energy malnutrition (PEM) and results
were compared with a group of 50 normal controls. Mean serum vitamin E concentration as well as vitamin E/cholesterol ratio
were found to be reduced in children with PEM while their mean serum cholesterol level was not significantly different from
the control group. Data suggest that the reduced levels of serum vitamin E in PEM may be a result of malnutrition per se. 相似文献

Hyperferritinemia (>10,000 ng/ml) is an important hallmark used as an indicator of infection triggered macrophage activation syndrome leading to hemophagocytic lympho histiocytosis (HLH). Measurement of serum ferritin can be used in diagnosis as well as disease monitoring indicator and prognosis related to HLH, cAPS, sepsis, neoplasm and inflammatory conditions. It is a major contributor to manage critically ill patients as predicting and monitoring indicator. It can be used as acute phase response in conditions of MAS, AOSD, cAPS etc. A case study in our hospital showed extremely high ferritin values along with low hemoglobin, elevated LDH and triglycerides with positive MRSA in sputum culture and macrophage proliferation and hemophagocytosis in the bone marrow examination. Patient showed definite inverse relation with steroid therapy and serum ferritin levels. 相似文献

Thirty patients with thalassemia major receiving repeated blood transfusion were studied to see their serum parathyroid hormone
(PTH) and calcium status. Serum PTH, serum and 24 h urinary calcium, and serum alkaline phosphatase, phosphorus, and albumin-corrected
calcium levels were determined. Half of these patients, in addition to transfusion, were also supplemented with vitamin D
(60,000 IU for 10d) and calcium (1500 mg/day for 3 months). Serum PTH, and serum and 24 h urinary calcium concentrations of
the patients receiving transfusions were found to be significantly reduced while their serum alkaline phosphatase, phosphorus,
and albumin-corrected calcium levels were not significantly altered when compared to the respective mean values for the control
group. Vitamin D and calcium supplementation significantly increased their serum PTH and calcium levels. Supplementations
also increased urinary excretion of calcium. The results thus suggest that patients with thalassemia have hypoparathyroidism
and reduced serum calcium concentrations that in turn were improved with vitamin D and calcium supplementation. 相似文献

This paper describes a good governance architecture framework that would bring significant improvements in the overall working of open and distance learning institutions in a well-structured and systematic way. The good governance framework is articulated with seven basic principles which are performance, transparency, accountability, participation, leadership, consensus orientation and fairness. These principles are structured with the good governance practices which relate to performing well for the assigned goals and objectives, promoting values for the organisation, making well-informed and transparent decisions, focusing on the organisation’s purpose and outcomes, capacity building and managing risks effectively. These principles and suggested practices in the framework would become tools for developing an improvement strategy so as to help in the smooth operation and efficient management of the institution concerned. The developed system would bring about significant improvement in the teaching–learning activity as well as in the quality of distance education. It would also enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and overall performance of the institutional management which is crucial to the continuous development of the institution concerned. Thus, the proposed good governance framework when implemented in an open and distance education institution would improve the quality of distance education and also increase its accessibility in a well-organised and structured way. 相似文献

Thyroid hormonal status was measured in 80 malnourished children of different grades (I–IV) of protein energy malnutrition
(PEM). Serum levels of tri-iodo thyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) were measured by radioimmunoassay. The results were compared with 20 healthy, age

Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a rare autosomal recessive condition characterized by retinitis pigmentosa, postaxial polydactyly, central obesity, and renal involvement. Renal failure is the commonest cause of death. We report a case of BBS with chronic kidney disease (CKD) at younger age (17 year) from India. This diagnosis should be considered in patients with renal disease and the characteristic phenotype of retinitis pigmentosa, postaxial polydactyly and central obesity. These patients should undergo regular monitoring of renal function test to early diagnosis and treatment of CKD to prevent morbidity and mortality. Renal transplantation is a viable option of renal replacement therapy in these patients. These findings are valuable for comparing phenotype of BBS patients with CKD from various national and international centers. 相似文献
