Information Economy and Changing Occupational Structure in Singapore   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Using population census data since 1921, this article traces changes in employment and occupational structure in Singapore in the past 80 years. This is a follow-up to an earlier paper by Kuo and Chen (1987) that reported the nascent formation of the information society in Singapore till the 1980s. It also makes an assessment of the role of proactive government policies in directing industrial restructuring and occupational changes in this city-state. It is found that the long-term growing trend in information-related occupations has been in tandem and supportive of industrial changes in Singapore. One more wave of growth of information producers (and certainly, innovators) and information distributors is expected in the next couple of decades. The momentum has started, and competition from regional countries similarly aspiring to be information and knowledge economies will quicken the pace. The government has initiated fundamental changes in the educational system to meet the challenges of the knowledge-based economy. The small city-state has also long adopted an adaptive philosophy to be responsive to the ever-changing environment, either in technology or in regional politics. Based on the trend analysis, it is expected that the emergent information society will graduate into full status when Singapore attains a developed country status in the forthcoming decades.  相似文献

农村学校是贫困地区教育扶贫中的关键角色.研究基于多元贫困理论和政策文本分析,构建资源输入、内涵发展和系统改进三维12类农村学校阻贫成效评估体系.在此基础上,对秦巴山连片特困地区五县的实证调查发现,农村学校在贫困生补助、办学资金增加、设施设备改善、贫困生陪伴关怀与贫困生身心素质培养等方面的阻贫成效显著;但在优质教育资源共享、贫困生营养健康支持、学业质量提升、学校软环境与家庭观念改善等方面存在不足,特别是在农村教师直接参与社区扶贫工作等方面存在政策执行偏差.“后扶贫时代”应继续加强师资改善、校长教师培训工作,优化义务教育优质资源共享机制,整体提升农村学生营养健康水平和学业质量,合理扩展农村学校对家庭和社区的阻贫功能.  相似文献

为解决现行变电企业选址方法在实际应用中存在相关系数较低、选址规划位置不合理等问题,结合当前现有变电站配电网与负荷情况,开展110kV变电站选址方法探究.基于现状配电网与负荷情况的选址规划模型构建、模糊层次分析的110kV变电站选址、规划结果一致性检验,提出一种全新的选址方法.实验证明,新的选址方法在实际应用中得出的结果与现行变电站相比一致性更高,更能够满足现有变电站配电网和负荷运行需要.  相似文献

Two Web-based breastfeeding programs were developed to provide new parents with necessary information on proper breastfeeding techniques. One version was plain text and the other version combined text with graphics. The computer was viewed as a valuable learning tool. The breastfeeding program that contained graphics was preferred over the text-only program. Educators are encouraged to use Web-based graphic programs to provide breastfeeding education to new parents.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Child maltreatment has been linked to negative adult health outcomes; however, much past research includes only clinical samples of women, focuses exclusively on sexual abuse and/or fails to control for family background and childhood characteristics, both potential confounders. Further research is needed to obtain accurate, generalizable estimates and to educate clinicians who are generally unaware of the link between childhood abuse and adult health. The purpose of this project is to examine how childhood physical abuse by parents impacts mid-life mental and physical health, and to explore the attenuating effect of family background and childhood adversities. METHODS: We analyzed population-based survey data from over 2,000 middle-aged men and women in the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study using self-reported measures of parental childhood physical abuse, mental health (depression, anxiety, anger), physical health (physical symptoms and medical diagnoses), family background, and childhood adversities. RESULTS: Parental physical abuse was reported by 11.4% of respondents (10.6% of males and 12.1% of females). In multivariate models controlling for age, sex, childhood adversities, and family background, we found that childhood physical abuse predicted a graded increase in depression, anxiety, anger, physical symptoms, and medical diagnoses. Childhood physical abuse also predicted severe ill health and an array of specific medical diagnoses and physical symptoms. Family background and childhood adversities attenuated but did not eliminate the childhood abuse/adult health relationship. CONCLUSIONS: In a population-based cohort of middle-aged men and women, childhood physical abuse predicted worse mental and physical health decades after the abuse. These effects were attenuated, but not eliminated, by age, sex, family background, and childhood adversities.  相似文献

Science and technology are driving people’s life changes, including education and the environment. Many scholars have attempted to import technology into the classroom to help students learn in different subjects. However, students often need assistance with unfamiliar learning approaches and learning environments. This study proposed a non-immersive virtual reality (VR) guidance system combined with a two-tier strategy to help students learn geology knowledge. Two groups of students used different learning approaches: the experimental group students were guided by the two-tier test VR guidance system, and the control group students learned with the conventional VR guidance system. According to the experimental result, the two-tier test VR guidance system not only improved the students’ learning achievement in natural science, but also enhanced their learning motivation. In addition, according to the sequential results, we found that VR learning materials or environmental resources can help students answer questions and solve problems more effectively.  相似文献
