Objectives: To summarize the context, history and results of research studies conducted on the value and impact of health library and information services by the author since 1975 and to use this as a basis for examining ongoing developments related to evaluation research. To provide a comprehensive bibliography of library value and impact studies. Methods: Literature review and background based on personal involvement in the studies under discussion. Results: The author's studies demonstrate an ongoing evolution of value and impact studies since the mid‐1970s. In health sciences libraries, the approach taken to measuring value and impact has been strongly influenced by the type of research being conducted in the health sciences field as a whole. As a result, health sciences library researchers have become early adopters of methods that incorporate outcome and impact measures and rigorous research designs, and the concept of evidence‐based library and information practice. The paper recommends that a range of research approaches from various disciplines be used to guide future evaluation research. Conclusions: Value and impact studies will continue to be important resources for evidence‐based practice as health information professionals deal with evolving user needs and new ways of delivering information to a variety of audiences.  相似文献

Megan Oakleaf is an Associate Professor of Library and Information Science in the iSchool at Syracuse University and provides consultancy services on academic library value, outcomes assessment, evidence-based decision making, information literacy instruction, and information services. She is the author of the Value of Academic Libraries Comprehensive Review and Report. Her research areas include outcomes assessment, evidence-based decision making, information literacy instruction, and academic library impact and value. Constructing home pages for World-Wide Web access has become a major activity in academic health sciences libraries. At the Northwestern University, Galter Health Sciences Library staff are creating the library's new health information system using Web resources and integrating them with existing library systems-NUmed (OVID MEDLINE) and LUIS/NUcat (NOTIS). Development of Web pages, including selection and organization of electronic information, has become the building process for the electronic library. Selection, organization, design, and construction are important factors in the creation of an efficient and useful information system. Using resources like the World-Wide Web and tools like Netscape, library staff are designing an interface, defining policies and guidelines, and creating the tools that will give users easy access to local and international electronic, scholarly information resources. In this paper, the process used at Northwestern is shown as a model of an electronic health sciences library for the twenty-first century.  相似文献

A library class was designed and offered to new nurses from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Children's Hospital of Michigan between 2003 and 2005. The class was intended to increase their knowledge of quality health information resources and to assist them with their smooth transition to a new health care organization. The goal of the library training class was to develop the nurses' awareness and knowledge of the library services and online resources on the organization Intranet and to improve their skills in finding reliable information related to patient care, patient parent education, and research. An evaluation study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the library class. Although the findings demonstrated strengths of the library class, they also revealed some areas for improvement. The data gathered resulted in a number of recommendations regarding library instruction design and evaluation.  相似文献

在网络环境下,新技术的发展使图书馆业务工作发生了巨大的变化。信息咨询工作作为图书馆业务的核心“首当其冲”。笔认为图书馆的参考咨询应转向信息咨询,并对此进行了分析;同时从四个层次来建构图书馆信息咨询业务,即导向性服务,指导性(教育性)服务,检索性服务和研究性(决策性)服务。图书馆作为公益性事业单位,应在兼顾这几个层次服务的基础上,根据自身的性质和特点把握住业务的核心。  相似文献

The teachable moment is the time when a learner is ready to accept new information for use conceptually or in practice. Adult educators are always searching for that "moment" and models in which it has been incorporated. This article reviews the changing paradigm for continuing education of the health professional and the impact of information from the context of university-based providers of continuing education and information. Providers of continuing education and information face similar external opportunities and threats. The continuing education provider is a "marginal dweller" in the organization. The information provider (the library), although moving in that direction as technology affects the way information is accessed and managed, is much more a part of the core institutional mission. These parallel conditions provide opportunities for both organizations to work closely together to identify successful models to serve the "teachable moments" of all health care practitioners. A range of new library roles that suggest strong interaction with continuing educators is presented. Workable models are identified as well as characteristics of successful models. Suggestions for survival for continuing educators and librarians in "stalking the teachable moment" are discussed.  相似文献

高校图书馆对学生学业影响的评估,是确定图书馆利用与学生学业成效之间关系的研究,是高校图书馆成效评估的重要组成部分。国外高校图书馆对学生学业影响评估的实践受高等教育评估的影响,起步较早。随着图书馆成效评估相关概念的明确,图书馆利用对学生学业影响的研究成果日益丰富,主要内容包括考察高校图书馆资源水平与学生学业之间的关系以及图书馆资源利用与学生最终学位水平之间的关系、高校图书馆利用对本科生教育成果的贡献等。尽管研究的具体结论对于其相关关系呈现规律性特征的佐证较为有限,但为下一步进行更深入和完善的评估提供了丰富的可借鉴的方法。  相似文献

建设国家文献信息资源保障体系具有重要意义。有国家的政策支持,有雄厚的信息资源基础和先进的技术支持,建设科学的国家信息资源保障体系是完全可行的。建设中要遵守用户至上、适合国情、共知共享和科学性、系统性等原则。体系的文献信息采购模式可采用补贴型与平台型结合的模式,其组织模式可采用高级理事会的模式。保障体系应注意处理好各类资源及其拥有与存取的关系问题。参考文献14。  相似文献

Background: Consumer health information is becoming increasingly important and health policy in the UK is beginning to reflect this. This has implications for information producers, providers and users, with the move towards a more patient‐centred health service. Objectives: This review aims to provide a broad overview of the current state of consumer health information in the UK. It examines the changing roles of information producers, providers and users, exploring the impact of health literacy and new technologies. It features some of the current library and consumer health information projects taking place in the UK and discusses the role that libraries may play in the future. Methods: The article focuses on consumer health information in a policy context. It is based on the experiences of the authors' work for the Patient Information Forum and knowledge of consumer health information. A number of library and information professionals were consulted regarding the library and information projects. Conclusions: Communication between health professionals and patients, and between health educators and the public, is key in order for consumer health information to have the ability to improve health outcomes. Further, especially local, investment into the production, distribution and delivery of consumer health information is recommended.  相似文献

This is the second part of a two-part paper which explores methods that can be used to evaluate digital libraries in the health sector. Part 1 focuses on approaches to evaluation that have been proposed for mainstream digital information services. This paper investigates evaluative models developed for some innovative digital library projects, and some major national and international electronic health information projects. The value of ethnographic methods to provide qualitative data to explore outcomes, adding to quantitative approaches based on inputs and outputs is discussed. The paper concludes that new 'post-positivist' models of evaluation are needed to cover all the dimensions of the digital library in the health sector, and some ways of doing this are outlined.  相似文献

笔者在河南省四所本科院校调研读者对图书馆迎接教育部教学水平评估,推进图书馆建设效果的满意度,严格控制调研活动质量。定性与定量两部分调查结果表明,迎评促进了高校图书馆的建设。文章根据调研发现的问题,提出评估应常规化、周期化,在评估方案中加入图书馆服务质量量化评估指标,建设高校图书馆专业评估机构。  相似文献

分析并提出图书馆学、情报学和档案学的研究对象要坚持以下原则:保证学科研究对象的特殊性;学科研究对象不能以所属事业领域来划分;学科研究对象不能等同于该学科的研究内容,将学科的研究对象表述为一种社会行为。据此认为,图书馆学的研究对象是面向信息检索的信息组织;情报学的研究对象是基于信息组织的信息开发;档案学的研究对象是面向信息利用的信息保存。三学科的研究对象揭示了信息资源管理流程的主要环节。图1。参考文献20。  相似文献
