This article starts with a review of definitions of bilingualism. It then discusses the definition of bilingual education with its focus on the analysis of bilingual competence. It is subsequently suggested that a theoretical hard nut to be cracked in today’s bilingual research is to establish the scope of discussion of bilingualism models meeting the specific needs in a specific context instead of simple acceptance of the current EFL teaching models learned from other countries or regions. 相似文献

More than 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents who experience stress, not only in respose to the initial diagnosis, but also in adapting to the unique needs of their deaf child. This article is a selective literature review summarizing information from three fields in order to broaden our understanding of family adaptation to deafness. Discussion includes (1) psychology's model of individual stress and coping (2) family science's model of family stress management, and (3) literature on family adjustment to disability. The last part of the article traces the development of professionals' understanding of the reciprocal influences between deaf children and their families and describes recent research indicating that the impact of deafness on families is complex and variable. The final conclusion is that adoption of a family stress and coping paradigm would inform discussion of current issues in deafness, such as cochlear implants and bilingualism/biculturalism. 相似文献

With global integration going deeper,bilingualism has become a more social issue than a purely linguistic phenomenon.Over seas scholars have been studying in this field for a long time while in China,studies regarding bilingualism are still in its early stages.This pa per provides a historic review on the definition,categorization as well as its cognitive functions.Although it is still a question whether bilin gualism is an advantage or disadvantage to human beings’ especially children’s cognitive ability,this paper has concluded that early studies showed more negative results while recent research has shifted to a more positive attitude. 相似文献

This paper examines the ways in which Latino children’s literature portrays cultural models of bilingualism and identity affiliations
based on language and cultural practices. We focus attention the messages in seven children’s books about practices of and
attitudes toward Spanglish, standard Spanish, and individual and societal bilingualism. In addition, we analyze how characters
construct their cross-cultural identit(ies), based their language use and engagement in local and transnational cultural themes.
Using assertions based on cultural model analyses, we show how portrayals evident in these books inform and are informed by
