This article mainly talks about the role of input,interaction,and output in the second language acquisition.Input is believed as a trigger for learners’language learning.And the process from input to output is interaction.Through interaction,language learners can negotiate the meaning with the interlocutor and narrow down the gap between the target language and their own.All the hard work made in interaction is to produce output,which includes three functions:noticing function,hypothesistesting function,and metalinguistic function.Some teaching examples are shown to testify the hypothesis and its function in the process of second language acquisition.  相似文献

Universal Grammar,based on the mentalism,is the central part in Chomsky’s Generative Grammar.It considers language ac quisition in terms of the inner language faculty.It is of great help in first language acquisition(FLA) and explains reasonably many practical problems.As for the relationship between Universal Grammar and Second Language Acquisition(SLA),there is no definite conclusion un til now.The main hypotheses are no-access,direct-access and indirect-access.Interlanguage,as a unique language system,is an interim language between native language and target language.Therefore,it involves the characteristics of the native language and of the target one.This paper attempts to investigate the relationship between UG and SLA based on the interpretation of the usage of UG in FLA,and then to discuss the accessibility of UG to the Interlanguage development.  相似文献

The Finnish language is a member of the Finno-Ugrian language family, which is a part of the Uralian languages. Finnish is mainly spoken by five million people. Finnish language is a unique language compared to other European language. It has fifteen different cases, and the inflections occur to many aspects of Finnish grammar. The national language Bangla (Bengali), which is spoken by 98% of the people, is foundational to the nation of Bangladesh as a nation. Language played a crucial role in the struggle for independence from Pakistan which was finally successful in 1971. The medium of instruction in state‐provided basic education is Bangla. Nevertheless, as in the colonial period a significant part of the elite is educated in English medium schools and subject to British‐determined curriculum and assessment. English medium private education carries the highest prestige, and the private sector is dominant in secondary education. The role of English is now being enhanced by globalization, which threatens a cultural recolonization of Bangladesh, and by World Bank strategies designed to promote the private school sector. The article discusses these problems and explores elements of a language policy that might be able to enhance both Bangla literacy and competence in English.  相似文献

Embodied Language Comprehension Theory claims that language is grounded in bodily activity and meaning is grounded in sensory motor system in modality.This study aims to examine whether EFL(English as a Foreign Language)learners triggered Action-Sentence Compatibility Effect(ACE)during sentence comprehension.The English sentences including concrete and abstract verbs are taken as stimuli.Reaction time and accuracy rate of the participants were collected as the experimental data.Two groups of students with different English proficiencies participated in the study.The results indicate that(1)While processing concrete-verb sentences,both groups triggered ACE.(2)There is no significant ACE in processing abstract-verb sentences.(3)High proficiency group responded faster with a higher accuracy.(4)It is difficult for EFL learners to process abstract actions.To conclude,the present study shows that mental simulation is activated while EFL learners with certain language proficiency are processing sentences.In foreign language comprehension,mental simulation would be facilitated with higher language proficiency.  相似文献

In this work, we have investigated text readability in Bangla language. Text readability is an indicator of the suitability of a given document with respect to a target reader group. Therefore, text readability has huge impact on educational content preparation. The advances in the field of natural language processing have enabled the automatic identification of reading difficulty of texts and contributed in the design and development of suitable educational materials. In spite of the fact that, Bangla is one of the major languages in India and the official language of Bangladesh, the research of text readability in Bangla is still in its nascent stage. In this paper, we have presented computational models to determine the readability of Bangla text documents based on syntactic properties. Since Bangla is a digital resource poor language, therefore, we were required to develop a novel dataset suitable for automatic identification of text properties. Our initial experiments have shown that existing English readability metrics are inapplicable for Bangla. Accordingly, we have proceeded towards new models for analyzing text readability in Bangla. We have considered language specific syntactic features of Bangla text in this work. We have identified major structural contributors responsible for text comprehensibility and subsequently developed readability models for Bangla texts. We have used different machine-learning methods such as regression, support vector machines (SVM) and support vector regression (SVR) to achieve our aim. The performance of the individual models has been compared against one another. We have conducted detailed user survey for data preparation, identification of important structural parameters of texts and validation of our proposed models. The work posses further implications in the field of educational research and in matching text to readers.  相似文献

This study explored the effects of discourse genre on the complexity of English language produced by school-age deaf students. Subjects were 13 profoundly deaf students, ages 7;1 to 14;8, who had been educated using only an English-based sign system in public schools. Language samples were elicited in three conditions: a traditional spontaneous interaction, a narrative elicitation using pictures, and an interview in which the examiner asked cognitively and linguistically challenging questions. The results show that students produced the most complex English language during the interview, as measured by the use of embedded clauses, conjunctions, and modals. In contrast to previous studies, utterance length in this one did not vary as a function of sample type, likely because segmentation of the samples was based on the T-unit, not sentences. The results have implications for language sampling with school-age students, both in terms of efficacy and ecological validity.  相似文献
