Non-invasive methods for characterisation of printed cultural heritage

The quality of a book reprint depends on several factors, e.g. paper, typesetting, reproduction of illustrations, printing and bookbinding. The quality of the 1958 and 1988 reprints of the fairytale edition from 1944 designed by the Slovenian architect Jo?e Ple?nik was studied using standard and other non-invasive testing methods, e.g. microscopic and spectroscopic techniques, sonic velocity, Young's modulus of elasticity, surface topography and image analysis. The chemical, physical and colorimetric properties of papers and typographic tonal density were analysed. The results showed that the reprints do not correspond to the originals. Some of the differences in the reprints, if compared with the original (e.g. typographic tonal density), could have been easily avoided, while others (e.g. structural and optical properties of paper) remain unavoidable, mainly due to the influence of internal and external factors on the ageing. The ageing process influences paper properties, since optical properties deteriorate in time. It has been concluded that a precise and systematic study of the properties of an old book should be performed before the preparation of a reprint. The results of the research have shown that the applied methods are useful and satisfactory for the characterisation of the paper properties and typography, and can be of use at the analysis of printing ink and illustration reproduction.  相似文献

Decentralized event-triggered H∞ control for switched systems with network communication delay

This paper is concerned with the decentralized event-triggered H_∞ control for switched systems subject to network communication delay and exogenous disturbance. Depending on different physical properties, the system state is divided into multiple communication channels and decentralized sensors are employed to collect signals on these channels. Furthermore, decentralized event-triggering mechanisms (DETMs) with a switching structure are proposed to determine whether the sampled data needs to be transmitted. In particular, an improved data buffer is presented which can guarantee more timely utilization of the sampled data. Then, with the proposed DETMs and data buffer, a time-delay closed-loop switched system is developed. After that, sufficient conditions are presented to guarantee the H_∞ performance of the closed-loop switched system by utilizing the average dwell time and piecewise Lyapunov functional method. Since the event-triggered instants and the switching instants may stagger with each other, the influence of their coupling on the H_∞ performance analysis is systematically discussed. Subsequently, sufficient conditions for designing the event-triggered state feedback controller gains are provided. Finally, numerical simulations are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献   

Model transformation based sliding mode control of discrete-time two-dimensional Fornasini–Marchesini systems

This paper investigates the problem of sliding mode control (SMC) for discrete-time two-dimensional (2-D) systems subject to external disturbances. Given a 2-D Fornasini–Marchesini (FM) local state space model, attention is focused on designing the 2-D sliding surface and sliding mode controller, which guarantees the resultant closed-loop system to be asymptotically stable. Particularly, this problem is solved using the model transformation based method. First of all, sufficient conditions are formulated for the existence of a linear sliding surface guaranteeing the asymptotic stability of the equivalent sliding mode dynamics. Based on this, a sliding mode controller is synthesized to ensure that the associated 2-D FM system satisfies the reaching condition. The efficiency of the proposed 2-D SMC law design is shown by a numerical example. This paper extends the idea of model transformation to the 2-D systems and solves the SMC problem of a more general 2-D model in FM type for the first time.  相似文献
