The study evaluated online reference services through social networking sites in selected university libraries in Nigeria. A survey approach was adopted to ascertain patrons’ level of awareness, their preferences, and the sources from which they were informed of the existence of the service. Findings revealed that patrons are aware that their university libraries are on social networks but are still not familiar with reference services. Facebook, Twitter, and Ask-a-Librarian were ranked as the most preferred methods for delivering online reference services, and online reference service was indicated as more convenient than traditional desk reference service because communication is available anywhere and anytime with a reference librarian and is easily accessible. 相似文献

This paper presents a progress of the efforts by a department in a Nigerian University to introduce group counselling into near-by secondary schools. First, it reviews the traditional concept of guidance and counselling in Nigeria and compares this with the western concept, with emphasis on providing guidance/counselling to one individual at a time. The paper then discusses at length the group counselling programme that is used in various schools, mentioning findings on problems that adolescents are faced with. In a section devoted to evaluation, it was shown that Nigerian schools do need guidance counsellors. The last section discusses counselling techniques. Here is emphasised that, as counselling goes into Nigerian schools, there is a need to devise culturally viable techniques of handling issues and problems that are culturally peculiar to Africans.University of Ilorin 相似文献

This study explored the effects of appropriate pedagogical skills (study groups and multiple intelligences) on students' efficiencies in reading skills. It employed a factorial design using three variables. A sample of 90 science students choosing from three intact classes were involved in the study. Data analyses were carried out using mean, standard deviation, analysis of covariance and multiple classification analysis. Findings revealed the significant difference in performance of the groups taught using study groups and multiple intelligences methods. 相似文献

This study examines delinquency at the Oyo State Library Board, Dugbe, Ibadan, Nigeria. The study's objectives were to find out the reasons for delinquency, identify the causes/methods employed, and suggest ways of minimizing its occurrence in the study library. It employs the case study design, sampling nearly 50% of the staff and employing questionnaire, interviews, and personal observations. The findings show that students are the major culprits, who fear others will borrow but fail to return materials. Ways of ameliorating this are suggested, encapsulated in a well-formulated collection development policy to serve as a working document for the library staff. 相似文献
