The evolving role of the librarian in evidence-based medicine.   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Librarians' participation in evidence-based medicine (EBM) is rooted in past practices, most notably in clinical medical librarianship. EBM extends the librarians' role beyond identification of the literature to involvement in practicing and teaching quality filtering and critical appraisal of the literature. These activities require librarians to acquire new knowledge and develop new skills. A professional development program for librarians at the Library of the Health Sciences (LHS) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is described. The program's goals are to increase librarians' skills and support the EBM curricular initiative at the UIC College of Medicine (COM). The unique program has been a collaborative effort of the LHS and the COM. The locally developed classes provide librarians with instruction in clinical study designs, statistical concepts, and critical appraisal of the literature. Other interventions such as an EBM round table are also described. The programs' success is measured by librarians' growing involvement in EBM medical curricula, journal clubs, and morning reports. Additionally, librarians gained competence in new skills and professional satisfaction from working collegially with COM students, residents, and faculty.  相似文献

This study sought to identify medical librarians' roles in supporting evidence-based medicine (EBM) practice; determine whether medical librarians' work settings, work experiences, or job titles made a difference in their EBM responsibilities; and find out medical librarians' perceptions of their roles in EBM practice. An online survey was distributed to U.S. medical librarians. The results showed that medical librarians had positive perceptions of their EBM-related responsibilities, which were diverse and specific. Their work experience, work settings, and job title categories related to some of their EBM responsibilities, as well as the nature of some of the responsibilities.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Librarians at the University of Alberta have been involved with teaching undergraduate medical and dental education for several years. After 1 year of increased librarian involvement at the problem-based learning (PBL), small-group level, informal feedback from faculty and students suggested that librarians' participation in PBL groups was beneficial. There was, however, no real evidence to support this claim or justify the high demand on librarians' time. OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to determine whether having a librarian present in the small-group, problem-based learning modules for first-year medical and dental students results in an improved understanding of evidence-based medicine concepts, the nature of medical literature, and information access skills. METHODS: One hundred and sixty-four first-year medical and dental students participated in the study. There were a total of 18 PBL groups, each with approximately nine students and one faculty tutor. Six librarians participated and were assigned randomly to the six intervention groups. Students were given pre- and post-tests at the outset and upon completion of the 6-week course. RESULTS: Post-test scores showed that there was a small positive librarian impact, but final exam scores showed no impact. There was also no difference in attitudes or comfort levels between students who had a librarian in their group and those who did not. CONCLUSIONS: Impact was not sufficient to warrant continued participation of librarians in PBL. In future instruction, librarians at the John W. Scott Health Sciences Library will continue to teach at the larger group level.  相似文献

心理资本是员工所拥有的一系列符合积极组织行为学标准的积极心理能力的集合,能够给员工的工作绩效带来积极影响。本文通过探索性因素分析发现,高校图书馆员心理资本包括自信、希望、乐观、韧性、尊敬、进取、谦虚和奉献八个维度,并通过验证性因素分析证实了高校图书馆员心理资本八因素模型的合理性。相关分析表明,高校图书馆员心理资本的八个维度与馆员的工作满意度、情感承诺、工作投入和职业生涯满意度有显著的正相关关系,表明高校图书馆员心理资本具有良好的效标效度。综合实证结果表明,本研究开发的高校图书馆员心理资本问卷具有良好的信度和效度,可以应用于今后高校图书馆员心理资本的实证研究。图3。表8。参考文献24。  相似文献

The daily "Morning Report" is a fixture in many residency programs. In the past, librarians have attended this meeting and, in various ways, worked to enhance the resident learning experience. At the academic children's hospital discussed in this study, the concept was taken a step further. Together with the chief residents, the librarian provided a complete "learning package" consisting of the case write-up along with relevant, librarian-filtered, evidence-based information. The learning package was then e-mailed to all residents and some of the attending physicians. This program led to a huge increase in the use of library resources and services as well as a renewed recognition of the value of the library and the librarians.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 构建公共图书馆馆员胜任力模型,对于公共图书馆馆员的招聘、培训、考核及职业发展具有重要意义。[方法/过程] 采用文献分析法、开放式问卷法和专家访谈法收集胜任特征指标并编制频次及行为表现表,在此基础上设计结构化调查问卷,以SPSS 13.0为数据分析工具,通过实证研究和统计分析方法,研究公共图书馆馆员胜任力特征的构成,构建公共图书馆馆员胜任力模型,并在此基础上进一步分析影响模型各维度胜任特征的因素。[结果/结论] 研究表明:公共图书馆馆员胜任力模型由基本知识和业务能力、相关学科知识、计算机运用能力、职业态度和服务精神、情绪适应能力、组织沟通能力6个维度组成,职业态度和服务精神对工作绩效有显著影响。  相似文献

Analyses of information literacy instruction practices have neglected, until now, in-depth exploration of librarians' experiences in their teaching roles. That gap was addressed by this study, which explored Canadian academic librarians' self-perceptions as teachers. Semistructured interviews with 48 participants revealed that they experience complex relationships with teaching faculty. Data are analyzed using symbolic interactionism, Erving Goffman's concepts of deference and ceremonial rules, and work on gifting and reciprocity. The relationships are discussed as unequal in terms of power, where power is ceded to the teaching faculty. Study participants discuss this unequal balance of power by referring to their own self-positioning and the institutional culture of their workplaces. These results suggest areas of challenge to full realization of instructional goals, which merit attention by managers and by those charged with preparing librarians for instructional work.  相似文献

Assessment of teaching is an important part of growing as an instruction librarian. The article presents how instruction librarians can apply the small group analysis technique to improve their teaching skills. The benefit of using the small group analysis is its flexibility; it can be customized to meet the needs of the librarian and feedback from students can be collected and used to make changes. Through a case study, the authors demonstrate how the continuous use of this teaching assessment can improve the teaching skills of the librarian and lead to curriculum changes as well.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 建立高校图书馆馆员参与创客空间构建意愿影响因素模型,针对高校图书馆建立创客空间提出建议。[方法/过程] 通过相关文献阅读与问卷调查相结合的研究方法,利用扎根理论对调研所获得的资料进行整理与分析,从而建立影响因素模型。[结果/结论] 影响高校图书馆馆员参与构建创客空间意愿的因素主要可以划分为3个范畴,分别为:参与态度、参与规范和参与知觉行为。馆员参与态度是高校图书馆馆员参与创客空间构建意愿的内驱动力;馆员参与规范是高校图书馆馆员参与建立创客空间构建的外驱动力;馆员参与知觉行为是高校图书馆馆员参与创客空间构建的情景动力。  相似文献

The purpose of this literature review was exploring how medical librarians are addressing health literacy barriers, with an emphasis on enhancing the patient care experience. This literature review contributes up-to-date information related to health literacy barriers, with a specific focus on medical librarianship and enhancing the patient care experience. Medical librarians can positively impact health literacy barriers. By partnering with other healthcare professionals, medical librarians are in a position to ensure health information can be understood, which will ultimately improve health literacy and enhance the patient care experience. This study examined the role that health librarians could play in helping patients to find information. A questionnaire survey was sent out to 50 health librarians in the north-west of England. It examined the following: the type of library and users, access to information for patients, librarians' attitudes to provision of information to patients and their knowledge of other sources available to their users. Ninety-seven per cent of librarians said that they could recommend quality information sources to patients, but many suggested that there were practical problems in allowing patients to use health libraries due to lack of appropriate resources, facilities and funding. Advantages of health library involvement in patient information include having a local point of contact for patients and the ability of librarians to find, evaluate and organize good-quality resources. However, health library staff may not have enough time to answer enquiries from the public and may lack training in dealing with patients. Innovation, especially in developing on-line services, could offer a way to provide a service without overloading the physical requirements of a library. Librarians could also collaborate with other staff to improve patient information.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

There have long been complaints about the legal research skills of law school students and recent graduates. In this article the author focuses on the period between the release of two important reports on legal education, the MacCrate Report in 1992 and the Carnegie Report in 2007, examining how law librarians and other professionals involved were engaged in responding to the problem. The author concludes that if law librarians want to be involved more fully in legal research education, some changes or reexamination of our professional culture and positions may be necessary.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 数字化科研环境下,数字能力是学科馆员必备的能力之一,探索性地选择天津市作为研究区域,利用欧盟数字能力框架编制问卷对天津市高校图书馆学科馆员数字能力进行研究。为学科馆员数字能力实证研究提供测量工具;为进一步建设高校图书馆学科馆员数字能力提供参考。[方法/过程] 采用问卷调查法、数理统计等方法,从浏览、查询及检索评价信息、存储和管理信息、交流共享、制作内容、安全隐私、知识产权、识别数字能力差距7个维度及用户的一般人口学特征来研究天津市高校学科馆员数字能力现状,除横向7个维度外,根据数字能力概念,即适应数字化环境所需的知识、态度和技能,纵向将数字能力问卷分为认知和技能两部分。[结果/结论] ①以欧盟数字能力框架为基础的天津市高校图书馆学科馆员数字能力问卷具有较好的信效度,证明该问卷可以作为该领域的测量工具;②根据调查结果,一定程度上可认为天津市高校图书馆学科馆员数字能力较高,且认知水平高于技能水平,使用新型数字工具(如绘制思维导图软件、情报分析图谱软件及专利分析软件)的能力较弱;③天津市高校图书馆正高级学科馆员在使用文献管理软件、数字笔记本、数据库提供的投稿功能等方面的能力有待提高。  相似文献

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aims of the study were to examine whether and how librarians with a generalist background can transfer to roles demanding more expert knowledge in the health sector. The objectives were (i) to compare the education and training needs of health librarians with science degrees with the education and training needs of health librarians with arts and humanities degrees; (ii) to compare the education and training needs of librarians working in the National Health Service (NHS) sector with the education and training needs of librarians working for the health sector but within higher education. METHODS: Face-to-face interviews with 16 librarians, a convenience sample of librarians working in the Thames Valley NHS region. RESULTS: The main findings confirmed that structured continuing professional development (CPD) is required to meet the rapidly changing needs in the health sector. The emphasis ought to be on teaching skills, outreach work, marketing and promotion, research skills and methods, subject knowledge and terminology, and management skills. Library school curricula do not appear to meet the demands of medical library posts. A first degree in scientific subjects is advantageous in the early stages of a career but diminishes with continuing training and experience. There is no evidence of a significant difference in training needs and provision between the librarians in NHS posts as opposed to those in higher education (HE) posts. CONCLUSIONS: The conclusions suggest that library schools need to update their programmes to include teaching skills, advanced search skills, project management skills, research methods, with more practical exercises. Particular attention should be given to librarians with a first degree in non-scientific subjects in terms of time allocated for CPD, quality of training and access to reliable mentorship.  相似文献
