With the reduced number of free-standing library schools, one common model places IT students and LIS students within the same unit. Doing so raises questions about how to teach management. IT students will most likely work in revenue generating organizations while most libraries have assured continuing funding. IT organizations normally provide less job security but also offer greater economic opportunities. Librarians have less risk of being fired, but salary gains are more limited. IT students seeking a master’s degree usually need technical competencies for admission while LIS students get admitted from all disciplines without any prior courses in library science. LIS students with a liberal arts degree are better prepared for the complexities of management. Most MLIS librarians will have management responsibilities. IT students may not. Finally, IT is disproportionately male while LIS is a female profession. The column concludes with some ways to provide adequate management education to both groups.  相似文献

美国儿童图书馆学教育发端于19世纪末20世纪初,儿童图书馆学课程建设已有超过百年的历史。本文首先梳理了53个ALA认证的硕士学位教育项目和34个AASL-CAEP认证的学校图书馆硕士教育项目,系统展示了美国高校儿童图书馆学教育的概貌;然后筛选出84所高校的603门ELSY课程,并对这些课程进行了统计与内容分析。当前,美国ELSY课程按主题可区分为六大类型:文献类、服务类、管理类、职业类、研究类和实习类。ELSY课程有超过1/3(约占39%)为文献类课程,其核心内容为文献知识;有约1/4(约占26%)为服务类课程;实习类课程约占16%,每个学校都至少有一门实习类课程;管理类、职业类课程较少,分别占比8%和6%,并非每个学校都开设了此类课程;研究类课程占比最少,约占5%,是美国ELSY课程的短板。美国在ELSY课程内容建设上的经验与问题,可为我国设立和发展儿童图书馆学课程提供借鉴。表7。参考文献47。  相似文献

谢拉等学者提出和发展的社会认识论是一种旨在从知识交流角度解析“社会智力”的形成机制,从而为图书馆情报学的社会基础做出解释的理论。本研究基于社会认识论,遵循实践导向原则,以用户和记录资源为两个向度,初步划分出图书馆情报学理论视域下的四个具体实践领域,进而通过各层次用户和记录资源之间互动关系的分析,将社会认识归纳为由低到高的四个层次,最终将图书馆体系的本质界定为一种通过结构性文化资本与个体性文化资本互动交汇而保障社会认识高级化的制度安排,并把图书馆情报学界定为以用户和资源作为二维向度,以记录管理和社会认识作为理论支点,以满足不同层次社会认识需求为主要研究内容的学科。图2。参考文献33。  相似文献

文章主要探讨引用与合作之间的关系,结合引用认同和合作状况分析,以及引用动机和合作动机的调查分析,探索引用与合作的关系,并以多位我国图书情报学核心作者为例作实证分析。结果表明,引用与合作具有一些相同的特征和规律;引用和合作互相促进;引用与合作都能增强作者间的“认同”感,加强科学交流等。  相似文献

Abstract

By comparing two classes (onsite and remote), this study assesses the influence of interactive video technology on how students learn in one library and information science (LIS) distance learning course. Students in this course participated voluntarily in the study by completing a questionnaire, and some elected to participate in a focus group at the end of the course. The results revealed that students in both classes became more comfortable with the technology, had positive attitudes, and achieved the learning objectives for the course. Students identified the top three positive factors that enhanced their learning as (1) class discussions with more diverse perspectives, (2) use and familiarity with the technology, and (3) class interactions. Students identified the top three negative factors that hindered their learning as (1) audio problems, (2) technology glitches and delays, and (3) intimidation to participate by the large screen, with two large classes and talking heads visible to everyone. In conclusion, the benefits of interactive video far outweigh the barriers.  相似文献

Abstract

Library education in Jordan falls into three categories: professional, at the post-graduate level, subprofessional, at the community colleges level, and in-service training. The primary institution concerned with in-service training is JLA. Detailed accounts of programmes, syllabus, curriculum and course contents offered at all levels are given. The historical account of the library movement in Jordan indicates that Jordan’s libraries are in transition from traditional to advanced library and information functions and practice. Continuous course evaluations and assessments resulted in the development of curricula endeavouring to advance trends in library and information science. Thus, more libraries are implementing computer systems. The post-graduate curriculum introduces courses on advanced topics in information science and technology besides library automation. JLA is shifting its emphasis towards specialized courses on computerization and library software packages such as CDS/ISIS. Community colleges’ library education has also changed to include advanced topics.

Statistical analysis of students and trainees at all levels is given. The impact of information technology on several library aspects and information services is highlighted to disclose what should be incorporated into the new library education curricula to equip the future generation of library and information professionals to practise the profession in Jordan.  相似文献

Recent studies show a growing sense of frustration for new library and information science (LIS) graduates who struggle to gain employment, as well as for hiring libraries who find the skills of entry-level employee candidates to be lacking. This study endeavors to discover the origins of this troubling juxtaposition by examining the perceptions of recent LIS graduates. The researchers administered a large-scale survey with over 575 respondents, analyzed and coded the data, and compared codes using a Cohen's kappa calculation. The responses indicate that LIS graduates feel that their LIS education would have been more valuable had it given them more opportunities to gain experience, more courses in technology and instruction, more guidance in which courses to take, and more mentoring opportunities with practicing information professionals.  相似文献
