Information seeking and its dimensions have been analyzed and measured in different disciplines and contexts and the relationships to other variables, such as gender, task, knowledge, personality, experience, and expertise, have been measured by researchers and have yielded helpful results. In this study, the relationships between information-seeking behavior and prior knowledge of graduate (MA and PhD) students at Tehran University were tested and analyzed. Results show positive and strong relationships between these two variables. Moreover, some dimensions of information-seeking behavior and some aspects of prior knowledge (expertise, familiarity, and past experience) had positive and significant relationships.  相似文献

The creation of an instant messaging (IM) service is described. The challenges encountered in developing, launching, and maintaining the project are examined and include technical support, archiving, balancing different formats, privacy, assessment, training, and the effectiveness of the IM channel. The process of choosing an aggregator and a widget and redesigning the online reference services portal is explored, and best practices that evolved are identified. Useful strategies and concerns that emerged are discussed. Factors contributing to an overall increase in use are outlined and include convenience, simplicity, and reliability.  相似文献

The United States’ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) operates over one hundred observing systems and numerical models providing information and forecasts about the planetary environment from the bottom of the ocean to the surface of the Sun. Collected NOAA data constitute an irreplaceable resource that must be well-documented, discoverable, accessible, and preserved for future use. Good data management should therefore be part of NOAA's core business practices, and employees and leadership should be aware of their roles and responsibilities in this arena. NOAA has developed an Environmental Data Management (EDM) Framework document that discusses Principles, Governance, Resources, Standards, Architecture, Assessment, and the Data Lifecycle, and which also enumerates specific recommendations. The NOAA EDM Committee has issued Directives pertaining to data management planning, archiving, data access, metadata, and other topics. A Data Catalog has been established, and a project to assign persistent, citable identifiers to archival data is well underway. Numerous groups at NOAA are performing technical work related to data access, usability, and preservation.

The purpose of this article is to describe these documents and activities in order to share our experiences and to provide guidance and encouragement for improved data management practices and processes at other organizations.  相似文献

For public libraries, as with most organizations, effective strategic planning is critical to longevity, facilitating cohesive and coordinated responses to ever present and ever changing political, economic, social, and technological (PEST) forces which shape and influence direction. Strategic planning is widely recognized as a challenging activity, however, which can be both time consuming and unproductive, and there exists limited guidance regarding how to evaluate documented and disseminated strategic plans, particularly within the not-for-profit sector. In response, this research proposes and tests an inspection-based approach to the evaluation of strategic plans, based upon a rubric specifying the key attributes of each of the core components of a plan, combined with an appropriate assessment scale. The rubric provides a method to identify and assess completeness of strategic plan, extending to qualitative assessment of communication aspects such as specification and terminology, and synergistic aspects such as cohesion and integration. In the most comprehensive study of its kind to date, the method is successfully trialed across the devolved Scottish public library sector, with the strategic plans of 28 of the 32 regional networks evaluated. Of the 28 plans, 17, or 61%, were found to be incomplete and/or to contain contradictory or uncoordinated components. It is recommended that Scottish public libraries improve not only completeness of plans, but also their precision, specificity, explicitness, coordination, and consistency, and overall mapping to library services. Recommendations are made for further widespread application of the rubric.  相似文献

University museums and their collections are among the oldest and most significant in the world, yet their role and future is being questioned. They have critical needs for facilities, staff, and support. At risk are millions of objects that document our natural and cultural history and programs for research, teaching, and public education and exhibits. The museums are attempting to redefine, reposition, and clarify their educational mission. Museums such as the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural history are successfully meeting the challenges through strategic planning and funding for new facilities. Other museums are finding solutions with partnerships, links, and tailor‐made service programs. New leadership and management will need to emerge for university museums to reestablish their stature and relevance. Physical and intellectual access to the museums and their objects is a key to their future. The new technologies are tools that museums can use to improve their interpretive programs and increase the depth of their research. Facing shared concerns and challenges, the museums are generating a growning sense of collective urgency and a call for intenational organization, advocacy, and cooperation, resulting in formation of the International Committee for University Museums and Collections.  相似文献

This study investigated the nature of direct mail advertising, a commonly used but little studied form of political campaign communication. 715 brochures were content analyzed employing the Functional Theory of Political Campaign Discourse and Issue Ownership Theory. Acclaims were more common than attacks, which in turn were more frequent than defenses. Primary campaign pamphlets used more acclaims and fewer attacks than general campaign brochures. Democrats used more attacks and fewer acclaims than Republicans. In the general campaign, incumbent party candidates acclaimed more and attacked less than challengers. Incumbents were also prone to use past deeds to acclaim more, and attack less, than challengers. Incumbents tended to use future plans to acclaim more, and attack less, than challengers. Winners used more acclaims and fewer attacks than losers. Overall, direct mail brochures discussed policy more than character. Democrats discussed policy more and character less than Republicans. Democrats discussed Democratic issues more, and Republican issues less, than Republicans. Incumbent party candidates discussed policy more, and character less, than challengers. Winners discussed policy more, and character less, than losers. Winners attacked more on policy, and less on character, than losers. Similarities and differences between direct mail advertising and other message forms were discussed.  相似文献

文章分别以50所国外iSchools联盟机构和18所国内机构的图书情报与档案管理学科研究者在2014-2018年发表的论文为研究对象,利用词频分析、中心度分析和聚类分析对研究热点进行挖掘和比较。研究发现,国外学者的研究热点主题主要集中在信息交流与行为、信息检索、弱势群体信息服务、信息教育、疾病防控和干预、医疗护理与卫生保健信息服务研究等6个方面;国内学者主要集中在大数据环境下的图书馆相关问题、基于知识图谱的文献计量分析、知识组织与传播、图书馆学和情报学学科发展动态、用户信息交流与行为、信息服务及质量评价和新媒体环境下的学术评价研究等7个方面。  相似文献

Bibliographic management tools have been widely used by researchers to store, organize, and manage their references for research papers, theses, dissertations, journal articles, and other publications. There are a number of reference management tools available. In order for users to decide which tool is best for their needs, it is important to know each tool's strengths and weaknesses. This article compares four reference management tools, one of which is licensed by University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey libraries and the other three are open source and freely available. They were chosen based on their functionality, ease of use, availability to library users, and popularity. These four tools are EndNote/EndNote Web, Zotero, Connotea, and Mendeley Desktop/Mendeley Web. Each tool is analyzed in terms of the following features: accessing, collecting, organizing, collaborating, and citing/formatting. 地学数据资源具有多源、分散、异构等特征,为了能够充分共享和利用地学数据资源,必须有效集成并建 立地学数据库,但是传统地学数据建库方法存在着难以系统地认知建库对象,缺乏统一的语义支撑等问题。针对这些 问题,本文提出并定义了地学数据本体模型、概念体系及其构建方法,阐述了基于地学数据本体的数据建库方法和流 程。该方法在数据本体明确语义的支撑下,抽取出完善的数据实体关系模型,实现多源、异构数据的映射、转换与规 范化处理,并利用数据本体准确表达数据库的语义信息。最后以贵州岩溶地下水数据库构建为例,进行了方法的应用 验证。研究表明:地学数据本体通过对数据资源全生命周期共识概念、属性、实例及其关系的形式化描述,可以有效 克服传统地学数据建库方法的缺陷,更好地支撑和促进地学数据资源的集成建库。  相似文献

分析网络招聘数据以挖掘档案人才需求特征,对改革“经验主义”教学、推动“数据驱动”的精准培养具有重要参考价值。通过采集档案人才网络招聘数据,挖掘档案企业与职位的人才需求、任职要求,发现:①档案人才需求量高的地区有一线城市、成都、杭州、西安等地。需求缺口最大的行业是房地产、建筑建材工程和计算机软件等。职能类型主要为图书管理员、档案管理员和资料管理员。②知识要求主要包括专业理论知识、档案实体管理知识、档案行政管理知识和计算机基本知识。③技能要求依次为与档案高度相关的管理、整理、归档档案文件等技能。④能力要求主要为熟练掌握能力、责任心、工作细心等人才个体所必需的素质,以及作为企业的一员需具备的团队合作、沟通协调能力。最后从教育发展规划、课程体系结构和专业教学过程提出档案人才培育相关建议。  相似文献

The job titles and career paths of people transitioning between academia and scholarly publishing, and of those who are progressing within their publishing careers, has been little studied and lacks accepted frameworks, ‘route‐maps’, and taxonomies. Much of the work done to date provides merely a ‘snapshot’ of the current demographics of the publishing workforce at particular moment, and tends not to offer insight into pathways, trajectories, or momentum. This preliminary survey, involving around 150 scholarly publishers, reveals insights into job titles, progressions, and transitions, and exposes some of the reasons for transitions between academia and publishing. The analysis suggests that these transitions and career paths can be systematically studied and documented, for use both by individuals considering their own careers, and by planners and managers in academic institutions and scholarly publishing organizations.  相似文献

“十三五”期间,我国档案学科在学科建设、人才培养、学术研究、服务社会、国际交流与合作等方面取得了长足进展,推出了丰富的研究成果,获得了新的更大的发展空间。但在档案学原创性基础理论研究、档案学研究平台、团队与基础设施建设方面仍较薄弱,学科影响力尚需进一步提升。“十四五”期间,我国档案学科仍将关注人文、管理和技术三大研究取向,更注重这三者的交叉与融合,重点对文件档案管理数字转型、档案记忆理论与数字记忆、档案与数字人文、档案社会化趋向与文件档案管理理论创新、文件档案治理、古文书与档案事业发展史、文献遗产保护与修复及档案学专业教育改革与发展等领域开展研究,开创开放、多元、创新的学科新局面。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Best practices in cooperative collection development are based on interviews with 18 successful programs, which fall into three categories of cooperative effort: selection of print; electronic acquisition; and access, storage, and preservation. Questions probe opportunities, barriers, best practices, and lessons learned. Findings are collapsed into three areas of analysis: formation and founding; decision making, organization and administration; and funding and infrastructure. The successful cooperatives displayed best practices in four important areas: communication and consultation, goals and focus, flexibility and adaptability, and technological infrastructure.  相似文献
