Digital library (DL) evaluation is essential to the success and enhancement of DLs. However, there is a lack of research on the assessment of comprehensive evaluation criteria across multiple dimensions of DLs. In particular, limited research is available on criteria prioritization to determine which criteria are perceived important by different stakeholders. This study was conducted to compare similarities and differences in perceptions of the importance of different DL evaluation criteria by heterogeneous stakeholders in academic settings. Ninety subjects were recruited with 30 from each of the group representing DL scholars, DL librarians, and DL users. Subjects were instructed to fill in an in-depth survey consisting of 10 evaluation dimensions with 94 criteria. ANOVA and t-test were applied to examine the similarities and differences among the three groups. This study reveals consensus and divergence in perceptions of criteria importance among the three groups, and indicates an inherent tension among the stakeholders. Moreover, the differences identify gaps not only between user expectations and the DL practice but also between what's desirable and what's possible in the academic environment. The findings provide a comprehensive list of criteria to guide practical evaluation of DLs, and contribute to the narrowing of the identified gaps.  相似文献

This article traces the historical development of Digital Libraries (DLs), examines some DL initiatives in developed and developing countries and uses 5S Theory as a lens for analyzing the focused DLs. The analysis shows that present-day systems, in both developed and developing nations, are essentially content and user centric, with low level digitization projects in developing countries. Also, there is a lack of interoperability among the various types of DL initiatives. The article recommends investment in DL projects, digitization of print collection, as well as the development of standards that will address the problem of interoperability among the various systems.  相似文献

Abstract

Digital libraries (DLs) have evolved, and developments in information technology have changed the concept of the library from one of print and paper media to digital media. The success of a DL depends upon the computers, communication skills, and knowledge of library professionals in connection with modern technology. In the present scenario, we stand at a transition from the traditional library to a global DL. The technology-based idea is to provide universal access to digital content available only in a DL environment.

Today the emergence of digital technology and computer networks has provided a means whereby information can be stored, retrieved, disseminated and duplicated in a fast and efficient manner. On a global level, DLs have made considerable advances both in technology and its application. India still has far to go if the nation is to benefit from this movement. Only sporadic and partial attempts have been made towards DL initiatives in India.

The basic objective of DL initiatives in India has been to preserve the art, culture and heritage of this country. All projects aimed at creating DLs concentrate only on specialized collections. The DL initiative in India is still at a nascent or embryonic stage. But with the initiative like DL policy, it can also be said that the nation is serious about DL implementation.  相似文献

Background: Previous systematic reviews have indicated limited evidence and poor quality evaluations of clinical librarian (CL) services. Rigorous evaluations should demonstrate the value of CL services, but guidance is needed before this can be achieved. Objectives: To undertake a systematic review which examines models of CL services, quality, methods and perspectives of clinical librarian service evaluations. Methods: Systematic review methodology and synthesis of evidence, undertaken collaboratively by a group of 8 librarians to develop research and critical appraisal skills. Results: There are four clear models of clinical library service provision. Clinical librarians are effective in saving health professionals time, providing relevant, useful information and high quality services. Clinical librarians have a positive effect on clinical decision making by contributing to better informed decisions, diagnosis and choice of drug or therapy. The quality of CL studies is improving, but more work is needed on reducing bias and providing evidence of specific impacts on patient care. The Critical Incident Technique as part of a mixed method approach appears to offer a useful approach to demonstrating impact. Conclusions: This systematic review provides practical guidance regarding the evaluation of CL services. It also provides updated evidence regarding the effectiveness and impact of CL services. The approach used was successful in developing research and critical appraisal skills in a group of librarians.  相似文献

Studies of the resources and services provided through university digital libraries have focused on evaluation criteria which consider usability, content, technology, and context. The factors influencing user perception of university digital libraries have not been explored and discussed from the perspective of specific library service types. Structural equation modeling was used to explore influencing factors and the relationships among them, based on 353 responses to survey questionnaires regarding academic DLs in China. Findings show that information providing services, information retrieval services, and individual services are direct influencing factors, while information organizing services affect user perception indirectly through information retrieval services and individual services. 随着移动商务的发展,移动增值服务给消费者的日常工作与生活带来了更多的便利与娱乐。本文研究旨在为消费者选择移动增值服务提供一个分析与解决方法,最大程度满足消费者的需要。提出了一个基于Vague集的模糊综合判断的运营商选择模型,使用Vague值描述的语言变量来评价运营商提供移动增值服务的表现。通过实例表明,本文的方法切实可行,可以很好地帮助消费者从多个运营商中选择提供满意的移动增值服务的移运商。同时,也可以为运营商提供对移动增值服务的自我评价手段。  相似文献

图书馆信息服务评价的核心是图书馆信息服务质量评价。图书馆信息服务质量评价要依据用户的知觉和用户对服务的期望,才能准确衡量服务提供者的表现。国外图书馆界运用服务导向质量理论建立LibOUAL+评价模型,可以准确评价用户的满意率,改进图书馆的服务工作。目前,国内已经有图书馆借鉴LibOUAL+的评价思路和方法,通过用户调查评价图书馆服务质量,这预示了我国图书馆服务质量评价的发展方向。  相似文献

目前,图书馆在其服务质量的内涵界定以及测评研究等方面存在很多困难。主流观点认为服务质量可以通过顾客感知来定义和量度,方法是建立在SEVQUAL基础上的LibQUAL+^TM模式、简洁实用的SERVPERF模式和基于事件测量的关键事件技术。虽然3种方法各有优劣,但都普遍缺乏从内部考查服务质量的措施,因此,仍需要进一步深入挖掘服务质量的内涵,探讨服务质量综合评价模式,以及进行服务补救等方面的研究。  相似文献

This study examines the use of Internet resources and the evaluation of their usefulness from the perspectives of Chinese students and academics. The questionnaires were distributed at Peking University, ISTIC, and at the Information Institute of Science and Technology of Zhe Jiang Province, where 706 valid samples were collected. The data was analyzed according to: The background of the Internet users; the standard of Internet resources; Internet information-seeking behaviour; users’ evaluations of Internet resources and their perceived expectations about future Internet services. The study found that users with higher educational degrees tend to spend more time on the Internet and find Internet resources more useful than less-educated users. Although Internet search engines are the preferred information retrieval tool, other traditional or informal retrieval methods are also used. Many respondents agree that the Internet is helpful for narrowing the knowledge gap between developed and developing countries. Besides its richness and high speed, accuracy and authority are the most important factors when users judge the quality of the Internet; but, more specialized information filtering and navigation services are required. Further studies should focus on the information-seeking behaviour of different target groups, and with specific comparisons of Chinese academic users from economically developed areas, versus users from China's comparatively undeveloped Northwest provinces.  相似文献

[目的/意义]当前,建立评价常态化机制已成为各级政府提高其信息服务水平的一种有效管理策略,但当今社会所呈现出的复杂性、多样性、发展性却不断对现有评价体系的应用效果产生冲击,这就迫切需要人们对评价体系的可持续性展开相关研究。[方法/过程]创建一种评价体系的可持续性模型(S-PPF模型),该模型在理论层面体现了评价指标集合的差异性、评价目标的关联性以及基于过去、现在、将来划分原则的发展性,并通过提出评价连续体概念以及相关实用性原则实现了在应用层面的可操作性。[结果/结论]研究发现,S-PPF模型能同时解决评价体系的针对性、关联性和时效性等难题,是一种有效的评价体系可持续性解决方案。  相似文献

A web content analysis and case study were employed to analyze the research evaluation service practices and activities in 12 Chinese academic libraries – Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, East China Normal University, Shandong Normal University, and Donghua University. Specifically, the following aspects were examined: names of the services, service type, user training, support platforms, staffing, partnerships, marketing, and publicity and the time when the services were developed. The study found that a majority of Chinese academic libraries engaged in a variety of research evaluation service activities from article/journal/author assessments to patent assessments. Most research evaluation services were expanding from basic services such as citation searches, sci-tech novelty searches, and scholarly output statistical analyses to higher level services such as subject evaluations, subject/field trend analyses, and talent evaluations. Consequently, the user training, support platforms, staffing, partnerships, and marketing and publicity related to research evaluation services are increasing. The study also found that research evaluation services in Chinese academic libraries are based mainly on bibliometrics, and many of the services are being gradually automated and service management is being gradually standardized and institutionalized, while service effectiveness is gradually moving towards productization and specialization. However, these services do not yet extend to all aspects of the research impact cycle. Recommendations from the study include: incorporating new metrics and new types of research output into the current research evaluation systems; using unique author identifier profile systems to link research evaluation data systems and constructing a research impact cycle-oriented service system.  相似文献

In order to meet its present and future needs, the University of Kentucky Libraries initiated a team-based process with the intent of redesigning the Libraries’ organizational structure. Toward this end, library faculty and staff who were involved in the project received training related to the purposes and functionality of various types of teams, quality management tools, and analytical and decision making processes. Process teams were established to study the three major organizational components -technical services, public services, and management. A team-based management model was ultimately adopted system-wide by the University Libraries, with self-directed management and work teams replacing the traditional divisions and departments. Ad hoc project teams were established as needed. The processes that the technical services component followed during both the study and the implementation phases can be applied to management and work units in any library setting.  相似文献

图书馆管理目标是通过馆员的努力为用户提供高质量的信息服务,图书馆服务质量控制是图书馆管理的重要内容。LibQUAL+TM是一种用户视角下的满意度测量,可以被看成是图书馆服务质量反馈控制的评价工具,ClimateQUALTM是一种馆员视角下的包含员工工作满意度的工作气候测评,可以被看成是图书馆服务质量过程控制的评价工具。该文从理论基础、测评指标、应用前景等方面对LibQUAL+TM与ClimateQUALTM进行了评析,并讨论了这两种评价工具在图书馆服务质量控制方面所体现的相关性。论文的结论是:LibQUAL+TM与Climate-QUALTM都可以为图书馆服务质量控制提供决策支持,面向图书馆服务质量控制的评价工具应是两者的协同运用,我们需要从观念培育、指标本地化改造、制度完善、测评结果利用等方面全面努力,建设能够协同运用两种评价工具的图书馆评估文化。  相似文献

实证图书馆学(EBL)起源于循证医学,是一种获取有用信息的方法。实证图书馆学有助于图书馆人员的正确决策,可以提高用户服务的质量,能够促进馆员自身的发展。实证图书馆学研究方法的主要步骤包括阐明、搜寻、评价、应用以及评估。目前实证图书馆学的研究还没有得到足够的重视,图书馆领导者和图书馆馆员应该在他们的工作中考虑、计划和采用实证图书馆学的概念和方法,推动图书馆决策过程的科学化。  相似文献
